Stevie Jewel is originally from the Muskoka in Ontario, though has lived in the US for most of her life. She remains Canadian (and whole lot country) at heart. In interview she is happy to return again to Toronto to feature at Canadian Music Week on May 9 at the (also very country) Cadillac Lounge. Her career highlights include "One Last Kiss" (Seal the Deal) charting at #24 on Billboard's dance/club song list, being able to sing for President Bush in The White House, and an increasing fan-base on YouTube.

Q:
Let's start right in to CMW. With all the shows you play, US/CAN, how did CMW end up on your "to play" radar ?

Stevie Jewel:
Being from Muskoka, the music scene in Canada has always been something I wanted to pursue. I've been active in the US musically and it felt like the time was right to start playing my shows in my homeland! This year the stars aligned to allow me to be a part of CMW and I couldn't be more excited. CMW is such a great event and it's been a goal of mine to be a part of it since I heard about it.

Q:
The Cadillac Lounge is a fine country-ish venue. Though it's not quite the same as playing for the US President. Any special preparations for playing in a relatively smaller venue?

Stevie Jewel:
I love being able to engage with the audience and that is easier in a venue the size of The Cadillac Lounge. I always like to visit a venue before I play just to get a vibe for the space. Last time I was in Toronto I was able to stop in at the Cadillac Lounge and after seeing the space I know it's going to be a very fun show on the 9th.

Q:
We have great weather right now. It's 22C and sunny. CMW looks like we'll have lots of pedestrian traffic. For anyone passing by the Cadillac Lounge on the 9th, what would you say is the appeal of your music that would make them stop and go inside and listen?

Stevie Jewel:
Country music is about life, love, good times, and telling stories, and I think people will be hear that element in my music and be able to relate. I also have some brand new upbeat country tunes that I couldn't be more excited to be debuting at CMW!

Q:
You've had a sizable audience reach online (Youtube). Have you met any random fans from social media at live performances as a result?

Stevie Jewel:
(laughing) I once shot a video in Disney World and after posting it to my channel someone commented that they were there and saw me shooting but they didn't come say hi, I wish they had though, because I love meeting fans that I've connected with online, we're like instant friends because we already know each other. I also get some of the sweetest letters from fans and I love it, because that's who I make music for.

Q:
Last question: What's next after CMW?

Stevie Jewel:
I'm releasing my EP, The Golden Thread, during CMW and then I'll be doing promotion for the first single. I also have upcoming shows in South Carolina, Georgia, festivals in Canada, and participating in CMA Fest in Nashville. I'm so excited to be touring and sharing my brand new music with the world!

Cheryl Wilson, a native of Ontario now living, working and thriving in Nashville, Tennessee, is bringing it all back home. Canadian Music Week, known as CMW, is an international event celebrating its 33rd year and Crown 26 will be right in the center of the action.

“Crown 26 is a company I started to represent artists and manage their musical and business interests. I was always giving advice and sharing my musical knowledge for free and I thought I could serve everyone, the artist and myself, better if I structure it as a business. So I started Crown 26 and it’s all working out.”

Cheryl is coming back to Canada for a showcase event at The Cadillac Lounge on May 9th featuring an act she manages, Stevie Jewel and two other unsigned country artists, Larry Berrio and Steve Rivers. “Stevie Jewel is changing musical lanes after being a Grammy nominated artist in a different genre. She had a dance hit with ‘One Last Kiss’ but her roots are country and so it’s a natural transition for her,” Wilson said from her office in Nashville.

Stevie Jewel is originally from Huntsville, Ontario in the Muskokas north of the city of Toronto. Stevie trained at the Royal Conservatory of Canada, The Atlanta Academy of Music, and the Las Vegas Academy for the Performing Arts. One of the youngest artists to ever break the LA performance stage strip, Stevie has wowed audiences at The Venetian Hotel, The Stratosphere and The Plaza Hotel to name a few. She’s won numerous US talent competitions, and her dynamic voice carried her to a command performance for past President George W Bush at the White House.

Larry BerrioLarry BerrioWith over 800,000 views on YouTube, Stevie continues to connect with fans through a large social media following of over 20,000. Currently living in Nashville, Stevie is writing with Tom Douglas and is a guest performer at The Listening Room. Her new CD, “Golden Thread” launches this summer with performance dates adding to her schedule. She has a new single being released May 9th titled “Memory Lane”. How does Stevie feel about the Cadillac Lounge date? “I am very excited to be performing at CMW; I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new fans from around the world at The Cadillac Lounge.”

Larry Berrio has been touring Canada and performing for over 18 years. He’s been a featured guest on Canada in the Rough, Fins and Skins, and The Red Green television shows. He’s opened for Brooks and Dunn, Terri Clark, Tim McGraw, Johnny Reid, Crystal Shawanda and was a featured performer at the CCMA Industry Brunch Awards in Edmonton 2014. He’s released over 15 singles to country radio nationwide with “Rock Town” – a tribute to miners around the world – garnering 8 months of video rotation on CMT. With a new single to radio, “Get It Right The First Time”, bilingual Larry will take to the road in his 40’ Prevost tour bus after Canadian Music Week with his first stop in Quebec. His thoughts about the CMW gig ? “I can’t wait to get on The Cadillac Lounge Stage!”

Steve RiversSteve RiversSteve Rivers is turning heads in the country music scene. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Steve is a CMAO Nominee (Rising Star) and the 2013 Michigan State Winner of The US Texaco Country Showdown. He has opened for Eric Paslay, Frankie Ballard, Parmalee, Josh Thompson, Charlie Worsham, Greg Allman and Michelle Wright and performed on US stages including Cow Jam Music Fest, Kalamazoo State Theatre, the Illinois State Fair, B-93 Taste of Grand Rapids and Coast West Music Festival. As a songwriter, Steve has 14 independent cuts including, Drew Gregory’s chart hitting, “Truck.Beer.Girl.” With a new CD launching this year, and a move to Nashville, Steve’s performance at The Cadillac Lounge marks his third showcase appearance and second CMW. How does Steve feel about his upcoming CMW date? “I’m counting down the days! I’m looking forward to getting on The Cadillac Lounge stage again and sharing my new songs to a packed house. I had a great time last year and am honoured to do so again this year.”

Canadian Music Week is an excellent opportunity for artists to see and be seen and for all three of these unsigned artists this could be the chance for the right people to see and recognize their talent. Don’t miss this chance to see these rising stars before they hit it big and start playing the arena circuit. See you there ! - Cashbox Canada

"Stevie Jewel in Nashville"

Stevie Jewel Interview

by Joshua (J.Smo) Smotherman July 12, 2013 6:28 am Leave a Comment

Stevie JewelLet’s start from the beginning. Who are you? Where are you from? What style of music do you create?

My name is Stevie Jewel and that is my given name. Born in Canada, but moved to Atlanta when I was 2, lived in Vegas and LA and recently moved to Nashville. I had a song go to #24 on the Billboard charts (Dance) but I took some time off to think about my direction – I guess like Kelly Clarkson, I feel that Pop/Country is more my personal style. I have read that my style isn’t really “country”, but I was born on a farm, I can ride a horse bareback – that’s pretty “country” in anyone’s book

What challenges do you face being a singer/songwriter in Nashville?

None come to mind. I love Nashville and find the community of musicians here to be friendly and welcoming!

When did you decide music was the path you wanted to walk? Was there an “ah-ha” moment?

my “ah-ha” moment was at 2 years old when I sat all the family members down to watch me perform…..I made the fireplace hearth in our house my “stage”!

Who or what influenced you when you were younger? What influences you now?

My maternal grandmother introduced me to classic musical movies like My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music, Kiss Me Kate. One of the most influential stars of my childhood was Shirley Temple! I absolutely loved her movies, still do. An artist that has influenced me from childhood and still continues to is Barbra Streisand. The iconic style of the late 50’s and 60’s is really where I take cues about culture, and my personal style, even though my music isn’t particularly reflective of that era.

Do you have any favorite musicians, producers, or writers you enjoy working with? Where do you record?

I’ve had the opportunity to perform with several talented artists and musicians, but one of my favorite experiences was doing a small concert with Frank Sinatra’s musical director Vince Falcone. I’ve worked with several different producers, but two that I most recently had the great pleasure of working with was “Mama” Jan Smith and Blue Hamilton, both are extraordinarily talented musicians but are also wonderful people and working with them was simply a joy.

What role is the Internet/social media playing in helping you promote your music and connect with fans? Have you had to overcome any specific challenges?

I love how the internet has brought me closer to my fans. Through YouTube I’m able to grow my fan base and stay connected with them in ways that were previously not possible. My fans are so wonderful and being able to share new content with them on a regular basis is so much fun!

Do you actively gig? Tour? Where can we see you perform?

I just moved to Nashville and I’m in the process of preparing for band rehearsals! To stay updated on my gigs and tour information you can always find out the latest on my Twitter or Facebook page.

Where can we grab your album? Where can we connect with you online?

My newest single is on iTunes and my next two singles will be available there shortly! You can always connect with me on Twitter or Facebook, I love chatting with fans! Also on YouTube, I try to respond to every comment I get!

Any last thoughts? Shout outs?

I have to thank my Mum for always believing in me, my goals, and my dreams. She is the best person I know! I also have to thank my older siblings for their understanding, our Mum devotes a lot of time to my career and they are also so supportive! - Middle Tennesee Music
