Stevi Marie & Jackson Road

 Portland, Oregon, USA
BandCountryAmericana

For those of you who are being introduced for the first time, “Stevi Marie and Jackson Road” performs a mixture of country, americana, and rock featuring original songs by Miss Stevi Marie and great musicianship from her band, "Jackson Road". The group strives to elevate the art of live music.

Biography

"Stevi Marie & Jackson Road" is an amalgam of contemporary and classic country, folk, and pop influences. With strong musicianship the group focuses on making an electric performance each and every time. Collectively, we draw influences from artists such as Emmylou Harris, Buck Owens, Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Tom Petty, and Rosanne Cash. Stevi herself plays three instruments (guitar, trumpet, bass) as well as singing, writing, and producing the latest cd, Second Sight, which was released in January 2008.
From her humble beginnings in a small logging community, Stevi has risen to become one of the Northwest’s most active performers. At age 21, she went to Nashville, pitching a song to a publisher at CURB Records, who represents artists such as Tim McGraw and also showcased at the internationally renowned "Bluebird Cafe". Since that experience, she has worked hard to pursue a full-time career in music.
Shortly after her trip to Nashville, she was offered a record deal in Portland, OR to make her debut album, “I Thought I Told You”. The first cut on the album won her a finalist spot in the Oregon Symphony Songwriting Contest. Currently, supporting her debut release, the album has received airplay from the United Kingdom to Florida to Texas to Oregon, and accompanying rave reviews.
In April 2008 Stevi Marie signed with Comstock Records to promote her new cd, "second sight", all across Europe and Australia.
In July 2008 Stevi made the top 50 most played country songs by the European Country Music Association. Portland's own, 98.7 KUPL fm has featured her music on their locals only spotlight. As of date, every song on the cd has been receiving airplay.

Now a little on the group and their highlights:
In the winter of 2006 Stevi and the band competed in Las Vegas at the World Folk Foundation Battle of the Bands receiving 3rd out of 200 bands nation-wide. Also in 2006 they were a featured band on the syndicated Radio Program "The Backporch Show", which attracts an average of 10 million listeners every show.
Stevi believes that music is made through connections with many spirits. She is very grateful to be performing with an amazing group of people, including: Greg Jackson, co-band leader, bass player, vocalist, and co-writer of the group. He has been performing in the Northwest and in Las Vegas over the past 12 years, has taught composition at Portland State University, was a Buddy Holly impersonator, played guitar for the world champion Elvis impersonator (really!), and in his spare time he repairs all of his friends cars and guitars. He currently builds steel guitars with his father Robert Jackson. Chris Miller, lead guitarist, currently performs with legendary songwriter Dave Alvin. Matt Burnett, pianist for the band, recently arranged piano music for international artist Jim Brickman, with album pre-sales of 500,000+ copies to date. He also performs with Jerry Nailor of "The Crickets". He works regularly with Los Angeles producer Steve Sundholm and in 2005 toured the United States with “Geoff Byrd and the Sentinals.” Matt also has released two instrumental cd's, featuring his classically influenced piano style. Visit www.cdbaby.com/mattburnett for more information.
Drummer Matt Kramer is a Portland veteran having played and toured in many a band over his 20 year career from the west to east coast USA and throughout Europe.

The music in Stevi’s Own Words:
“I’ve always loved listening to country singers like Emmylou Harris, The Judds, and Rosanne Cash. But my Dad raised me on the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Along the way, Louis Armstrong caught my attention; somewhere in the middle, I suppose, is what I do."
All in all, the group does their best to elevate the art of live music, all while ensuring that a good time will be had by all.

Lyrics

Second Sight

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

Vs 1/
Lets go for a drive tonight
For too long
We've been trapped inside
I wanna let my hair fall
In your hands
Tell me a story why don't you lie
If that's what it takes
To make me smile

pre-chorus/
Bad thoughts come like
Second sight
I'll feel good after we drink tonight
I wanna share all of our secrets
Why don't we just get on with it

chorus/
It wouldn't be that bad
If we could find a little time
To spend together
It wouldn't be that bad
If you'd come home tonight
Bad thoughts come like
Second sight

Vs2/
Well maybe I'm down
Cause the bossman said
My skirt pulls the crowd
He said you'd make more money
If you were dancing downtown
And you were right
About that claim you made
Saying I'd be better off
Without that place

pre-chorus2/
But losing's never fit me right
I'll feel good after we drink tonight
I wanna share all of our secrets
Why don't we just get on with it

chorus2/
It wouldn't be that bad
If we could find a little time
To spend together
It wouldn't be that bad
If you'd come home
No it wouldn't be that bad
If you wouldn't hang your hat
Just to hang your head
And it wouldn't be that bad
If you'd come home tonight
Bad thoughts come
Like second sight

repeat chorus 2

Turn The Radio On

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

Turn The Radio On

Vs1/
The working week gets longer
And the year’s go flying by
Not much time for thinking anymore
Another day another dollar
Another time another place
The welcome wagon’s
Passing by my door

Chorus/
So turn the radio on
Let me hear those lonesome songs
Tell me that you don’t mind
The things that I’ve done wrong
Show me there’s a place to go
Where life carries on
Turn the radio on
I wanna hear (I wanna hear)
Those lonesome songs

Vs
The other side of summer
And now winter’s on it’s way
I wonder where I’ll end up this year
I’ve got a roll of silver dollars
And a bible torn in two
It’s not enough to get me
Out of here, well outta' here

Repeat Chorus

Bridge/
Pennies from Heaven
And pockets full of gold
Won’t change my ways
I’ll take what I’ve got and
Keep moving towards better days

Repeat Chorus

Outro/
Play me another lonesome song
Let me hear
One more lonesome song

Ghost of a Chance

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

Ghost of a Chance

Vs/
Something old something new
We’re both following in blue
But there’s summer
In the sunset anyways
I watched you watch the clock stop
One too many times
Time to learn to live for today

Chorus/
With a ghost of a chance
We made our footprints in the sand
Now time stands still as water
When we’re walking hand in hand
We’ve felt the weight
Of the broken hearted
And held the weight of this romance
Remember this all started
With a ghost of a chance

Vs2/
So she says
There’s a way about you
I guess that something's wrong
Too much time
But never time enough alone
I should have known this all along

Repeat Chorus 2x

Outro/
Why couldn’t I speak my mind
Holding on to my thoughts
Why wouldn’t you listen
I drift through the days
You told me time after time
Trying not to get caught
Love is forgiveness
She says we’re on our way
Why couldn’t I speak my mind
There’s a way for you to carry
Why wouldn’t you listen
All the weight of this romance
You told me time after time
Remember this all started
Love is forgiveness
With a ghost of a chance
A welcome in the window
I tried to speak my mind
There’s footprints in the sand
I tried to listen
Time stands still as water
You told me time after time
When we’re walking hand in hand
Love is forgiveness
There’s a way for you to carry
I tried to speak my mind
All the weight of this romance
I tried to listen
Remember this all started
You told me time after time
With a ghost of a chance
Ghost of a chance
Why couldn’t I speak my mind
Holding on to my thoughts
Why wouldn’t you listen
I drift through the days
You told me time after time
Trying not to get caught
Love is forgiveness
She says we’re on our way
Why couldn’t I speak my mind
There’s a way for you to carry
Why wouldn’t you listen
All the weight of this romance
You told me time after time
Remember this all started
With a ghost of a chance

Long Day

Written By: Stevi Marie

Long Day

Vs/
Sweet baby
I know that I’ve been wrong
It’s been a few too many times
But you’re still right by my side
I know that I’ve said cruel things
And I know that my temper
Drives you insane
Sometimes I wish we thought alike
But a country girl
She ain’t the city type

Chorus/
It’s gonna be a long day
The day you board that plane
It’s gonna be a cold night
Without you here by my side
It’s gonna be hard
Knowing that I can’t
Hold you in my arms
It’s gonna be a long day

Vs/
Sweet baby
I know that you’ve been true
True as life itself
True as me loving you
You held me close when in pain
Crying’s a good thing you said
You said babe don’t be ashamed
And you said
That we could work it out
I guess that’s what the fighting
Was all about

Repeat Chorus 2x

The Good Life

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

The Good Life

Vs/
It’s been a long year
The rain don’t fall like it used to
And I’ve changed
It’s been a long time
Since I left the city for a while
Cleaned up my lifestyle
And all of my friends
Are running from dreams
Looking for something
They can’t see
And I ain’t got much
Just this old beat up truck
No time to fix it up

Chorus/
Still gonna try
I’m gonna dream
Still gonna fly and never look down
What’s wrong with living
The good life

(BGV’s..ain’t got much but this ole beat up truck
no time to fix it up, I work long hours I don’t get much sleep
I have a hard time making ends meet)

Vs2/
Bruises are skin deep
But the time cuts through
Little left with less to do
Sometimes I can’t
Remember the past
World’s moving too fast
I had a good job
But I wouldn’t produce
And my bills are overdue

Repeat chorus

Bridge
I don’t need much
Just someone that I trust

Repeat Chorus

Outro/
It’s been a long year
The rain don’t fall like it used to

I'll Take You (As You Are)

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

Chorus
I’ll take you as you are
I’ll take you to the movies
When you need a little faith
I’ll come with open arms
I’ll take you to Nevada
In a wedding gown
I'll take you in the desert sand
A little luck and a few good hands
I’ll take you

Vs
Everyday is made
With your heart and my mind
Pictures of us dancing close uptown
I’ve been day dreaming too
Laying in a field of poppies
Thinking about you

Chorus2
I’ll take you as you are
I’ll take you to the movies
When you need a little faith
I’ll come with open arms
I’ll take you to Nevada
We can drive my van
It can’t be that bad
A little luck and a few good hands
I’ll take you as you are

Vs
There was a time
When I would hide the way I feel
But I gotta let you know
That my love for you is real
I’ve been acting like a fool
The fool in love
Hey I’m the fool for not telling you

Repeat Chorus1

Bridge
Whenever you want to leave
Wherever you want to go
Forever you’ll be in my dreams
I wanna take you home

Repeat Chorus2

Follow You Down

Written By: Stevi Marie, Greg Jackson

Vs1
Someday maybe baby
You’ll be something
That will make me proud
A one way ticket darlin’
Away from just a hangin’ around
But you can’t hide your pain
In empty bottles of shame
I can see you slippin’ further away
With your pills and your lemonade

Chorus
I can’t follow you down
I work too hard
To get my feet off the ground
It’s not like I don’t want you around
But I can’t stay
And watch you drown
You know that I could never
Follow you down
But I can’t let you fall

Vs2
You say it’s just a loss of direction
You need some help
In finding your way
It’s too late for a simple correction
Don’t let yourself get too far away
And don’t hide your pain
In empty bottles of shame

Repeat chorus

Bridge
There’s nothing I can say or do
Cause I’m in love with you
Yesterday you packed your things
So I couldn’t say
That I wanna lend my hand
But I can’t pave your way
But I won't beg you to stay

Repeat Chorus

American Way

Written By: Stevi Marie

Vs1
Hey out there
On the 52nd street corner
Young bloods making money
What doesn’t kill them
Makes them stronger
Hey you don’t look at me like that
With your sly smile
And your red corvette
Can’t you see
That I’m too young for you

Chorus
Isn’t that the way life is sometimes
You’ve got to push
To make your way
And I’ve seen a fair share of folks
Being pushed down
So show me that open road
Wish me well yesterday
I’m gonna find what’s left
In the American way
I hope to find my place

Vs2
Hey Mr. why do you look so sad
Nice house and a new jag
Haven’t you been kissed lately
Hey does anyone
Still believe in hope
Cause it’s time to choose
And the polls are closed

Repeat Chorus

So show me that open road
Wish me well yesterday

Drunken Midnight Blue

Written By: Stevi Marie

Vs1
She’s been talking
Drunken’ midnight blue
She spends her days
Depressed and ashamed
Ain’t got time
To make her dreams come true
She’s never had much luck
With men it seems
Spent too much time
In the space between
And she always wanted a cowboy
When the nights get cold and lonely
And she’s got no place to go
UHH

Chorus
She’s been talking
Drunken’ midnight blue
Cause she’s with a man
Who’s never been true
Dreaming of a fortune
She thinks she’ll never win
She tries to blame it on herself
When she should spend
A little time with someone else
Drunken’ midnight blue

Vs2
She’s been talking
Drunken midnight blue
She prays the lone ranger
Will come with his
Sleek white horse and save her
A diamond ring away from love
Might be enough
She won’t pass it up
She’s waited for too long now
Now she’s gonna take it
But she knows it’s wrong
She knows it’s wrong

Repeat Chorus

Bridge
I know that too many times
You’ve been pushed around
But you can’t spend your whole life
Letting somebody drag you down
HEY

Repeat Chorus
