"Still Flyin' Hit Melbourne"

If you thought all the prime real estate in life-affirming collective-pop had been snapped up already by the likes of Broken Social Scene, The Polyphonic Spree, Animal Collective, et al, then think again! Sean Rawls and the rag-tag crew of 14 musos that make up San Francisco's Still Flyin' have parked their party bus in the neighbourhood and taken up a prominent residence with their debut album Never Gonna Touch The Ground. - Inpress Magazine

Bio

After making their mark at 2009’s SXSW and playing to sold-out crowds throughout Europe and beyond, San Francisco’s Still Flyin’ is coming off an accomplished year. Initially marketed as an indie-reggae-party band, they quickly became know as one of the most unique, must-see live shows in the Bay Area. Averaging 15 members on stage, frequently leading crowds to remove their shoes during the set, Still Flyin' has always had an eye for the absurd. However, while maintaining and building that high energy, they have managed to release some of the best dance/pop in recent memory.

Sean Rawls, a former member of several Athens, GA outfits, wrote the rocksteady inspired jam "Never Gonna Touch The Ground" before Still Flyin’ was formed. The song was an instant crowd favorite. After leaving for San Francisco, Rawls recruited a gang load of his Bay Area friends to record a new version of the song to be played in his absence. Initially intended to be a one-off recording session, six years later, the efforts have now produced multiple EPs and a long player released in the spring of 2009.

Beyond the title track of the debut, not surprisingly titled "Never Gonna Touch The Ground", the other noteworthy tracks "Good Thing It's A Ghost Town Around Here" and "The Hott Chord Is Struck" make it one of the most clever dance-party records of last year. On NGTTG, the band took elements of their early sound and added more worldly rhythms, as well as some generous pop hooks.

In 2010, Still Flyin' has taken it a step beyond their adopted Jamaican roots, embracing the perpetual pulse of krautrock. Die-hard fans needn’t worry, for the Still Flyin' modus operandi remains intact. The band's innovative, high-energy pop mastery sits high in the saddle, guaranteeing the lucky listener a toothy grin and a shaky rump.

Still Flyin' is currently recording their follow-up Lp to 2009's "Never Gonna Touch the Ground". Taking a step beyond the kraut-rock leanings of the 2010 releases, the band is looking to make a record where any track could appear on the closing credits to the 1987 cult classic "The Lost Boys". The record will feature more keyboards and studio prowess, without leaving behind the danceablity that has defined the band.
