STiLL LiFe STaTiC

STiLL LiFe STaTiC (SLS) was formed in 2008 by a group of musicians determined to make music unfettered by the assumption that groups have stylistic barriers to their music diversity. Formed from the remnants of several well-respected Charlotte-based bands (X-Periment, Ibeji, Hobex, Baleen, Ecrujonz), SLS features four artists who have matured together musically along similar and crossing paths, joining to create an evolving music system capable of being accessible without being pigeon-holed into one particular category.

Derrick J. Hines (DeR th(inc)) and Dustin Clifford (DuST) started their musical collaboration together in the critically-acclaimed alterna-jazz outfit X-Periment, touring non-stop up and down the east coast, from big city to small town. Chester Spivey (cHe') and Chris Freeman (fRee) began working together in high school, forming alterna-soul group Ibeji in the mid-90's and playing extensively at the same time Derrick and Dustin were hot with X-Periment, the four knowing each other but never, until now, collaborating within the same outfit!

So, what does STiLL LiFe STaTiC sound like? Popular question! Let's just say that it's fitting that SLS describes themselves not as a "band", but as a "system". SLS labels their take on music as "AltRockHop".

SLS takes obvious pride in bending and blending genres to arrive at something unique (for example, the tune "So EaSy" blends hip-hop with a tango-inspired Latin groove!). SLS tunes like "iLLuSioN", "THe aRT oF SPiLLiNG", and "CHaRLoTTe the HaRLoT" are more straight-forward rock-oriented fare with heavy messages and grooves that are bound to move the crowd.

Other favorites like "WHaTUNeeD???" takes a go-go spin over a bluesy, gospel-inspired lyrical arrangement (a crowd fav!). Add in the beautiful, classically-inspired melody of "ForGotteN", the Santana-esque vibe of "ConSueLLa's LuLLaby", and the quiky jazz/fusion stylings of "THe JoKeR" and we're talking one helluva ride! Fans of STiLL LiFe STaTiC's former bands probably expect a lot from these guys together, and it seems they are going to get that and more!

SLS's fan base is as diverse as their songs are, and people from all backgrounds and walk of life have been inspired by their music. While working on their first full-length album, SLS plans to spread from the southeast region of the US to the rest of the nation and beyond.
