My Favorite Ride

Written By: Jeff Stillman

When I was young, there was this fair off of 91
With the greatest ride
It would slingshot you up into the sky
and your face would go white, pure white
You'd strain against the pads
Then they'd suddenly go slack
Send you screaming on back to the ground
And after one or two rounds
You'd be praying for the end
But when it ended you would get in line again
It was good, it was really really good
But it wasn't my favorite ride
Not my favorite ride...

Just 'cross the way, past the penny arcade
Was this other ride
It would curl you so fast through the turns
That your cheeks would just burn, oh they'd burn
It would rip you through the air
Strip you of your wits
And dry all the spit from your mouth
And you'd finally step out
Like you've hurtled back from space
With this crazy smile plastered on your face
It was wild, it was really really wild
But it wasn't my favorite ride
Not my favorite ride...

My favorite ride was maybe six feet off the ground
Didn't go too fast, didn't spin around
Didn't go too far -- maybe two hundred yards
From the entrance to our car

When I was beat, when I was heavy on my feet
I had the greatest ride
My father would stoop to his knee
Then he'd reach for me, oh for me
On his shoulders I would go
With my hands atop his hair
As the chilly evening air was rolling in
And I would grin at all the people passing by
And I'd feel like I was seven stories high
All those rides, but that one ride was mine
And that was my favorite ride
My favorite ride.

Farsighted

Written By: Jeff Stillman

I had these
Coke bottle lenses when I was ten, see I was Farsighted
No, it wasn't easy; the neighbor kids would tease me, call me Farsighted
Mmm, mmm, mmm

But Mama told me
My Mama told me
There'll be a better day she said
There'll be a better way she said
You'll see a little clearer
Every day it's a little nearer
You'll see
You won't always be
Farsighted

Through all those
Contacts and glasses, my days went passing, always
Farsighted
Seventeen years later, a miracle laser, no more Farsighted
Mmm, mmm, mmm

My Mama told me
My Mama told me
There'll be a better day she said
There'll be a better way she said
You'll see a little clearer
Every day it's a little nearer
You'll see
You won't always be
Farsighted

Today I see the world a little differently
My friends still sometimes go on teasing me
'Cause I see the way that things could be
Not as they are, but so what if I see...

A world without tears or a world without fears, I guess I'm Farsighted
A world without fighting, a world that's uniting, well, I'm Farsighted
Mmm, mmm, mmm

Like Mama told me
My Mama told me
There'll be a better day she said
There'll be a better way she said
We'll see a little clearer
Every day it's a little nearer
You'll see
I won't always be
You'll see
I won't always be
You'll see
I won't always be
Farsighted
