"Sooner Than Later is Now"

By Kevin C. Johnson
POST-DISPATCH POP MUSIC CRITIC

Mo Forrest, lead singer and bassist of St. Louis rock band Sooner Than Later, says people never quite know what to expect when they first encounter his band. Are they this or are they that, and more importantly, are they good enough?

"The comment is we're a lot better than they thought we would be," Forrest says. "Usually when you hear it's a local band, you think of a band screaming, or when you hear it you can tell they're local.

"People tell us we may be local, but we definitely have a big band sound. We've gotten that from Day 1, and we take that as a big compliment."

Sooner Than Later will continue proving that with its new CD, the hard-hitting blast that is "Life," which follows the band's 2006 EP.

"It's pretty much hard rock with a metal edge to it, which comes from lead guitarist Kyle Luttrell, who throws metal into whatever we do," Forrest says.

"The CD's got me rapping and singing, and when you look at the words, it's really about nothing but life experiences, dealing with life and all the things coming your way."

One song on "Life" is "Betrayed," which he says speaks to living a near-double life.

"It tells the story of a person who gets into a relationship that is what it is, but then their truth self starts to show," Forrest says. "In the beginning, you only see what a person wants you to see. The real person comes out later, and it turns out to be this other person."

Sooner Than Later pulled together two years ago, out of the remains of bands such as Driven and Trypnotic. The lineup also includes drummer Joe Thomann and rhythm guitarist Josh Haffer.

They liked the name Sooner Than Later because the name's initials allow them to play off of St. Louis.

Sooner Than Later's CD release party is at 8 p.m. Friday at the Pageant as part of the next Loop Underground event. County Brown, 12-6 Movement with DJ Who? and One Day are also on the bill.

"We've already got a good stage show, but we're putting more stuff into it," he says. "We've even got a lighting guy coming out. We really want to make an impression for those coming out for the first time."

Cover for the concert is $5, though it's free for those over 21 with a ticket. Get more information at myspace.com/stlmusicrocks. - St. Louis Post Dispatch

"Sooner Than Later, Gaining Traction on the Road to Music Industry Success"

To gain major success in the music industry, (sooner than later), there are several very vital elements that every artist or band must have in place and have mastered, that every top exec 'in the business' looks for in an artist or band.

The first of course, is excellence in musicianship, with a musical product that is equally as impressive, both while performing live on stage, and as is reflected in their recordings; with a sound that is distinctly their own, that does not sound like, and stands apart from every other artist or band of their genre; with as much 'broad audience' and 'marketing appeal' as possible.

(And of course, the ability to 'capture' an audience with their stage presence and the ability to put on a great show for fans). Showmanship definitely counts.

Equally as important, is the artist's or band's level of professionalism. The fact is, there are a cajillion and one absolutely outstanding performers getting in touch with 'the powers that be' in the music industry every day. But what music industry exec is going to stake their professional reputation on any artist or band that is unpromotable because of their lack of professionalism? None too many, I assure you of that.

And last, but certainly not least, when and only when, the artist or band has mastered all of the above elements, and they become 'something to write about', the fact of the matter is, any and every artist or band's career hinges on the amount and quality of press and media they receive. As it's the hard working professionals that keep the presses and the productions running, that are ultimately the ones writing the pages of music history; as what is the first thing every execs ask for?

...A press kit. (Face it, talent buyers and other execs are not going to shell out big bucks for a band that they, nor anyone else has never heard of, as the name of the game and the bottom line in the music industry is ticket and/or CD sales.) ...And even after one has gained measurable success in the music industry, this rule still applies, as the hard truth is, competition is steep, and in the music industry absence makes the heart grow forgetful, so it is imperative to stay in the forefront of the hearts and minds of both fans and execs alike.

This, in four short paragraphs, is the secret to both gaining and maintaining success and reaching your desired destination (sooner than later), on the road to music industry success. One prime example of a totally outstanding band that indeed has mastered all the above elements, and are not only gaining traction, but have got the petal to metal on the road to music industry success, is the ultra dynamic band, appropriately named, Sooner Than Later, out of St. Louis, Missouri.

Their sound is an original combination of very masterfully, precision tight, musicianship, lyrics and vocals, that cross over into several genres all at once, ranging from hard driving, butt kicking rock, to melodic metal, alternative, with a little bit of rap thrown in; as exhibited in their songs, "False Preceptions Life" and "Keep On Keepin' On" from their brand new CD, "Life", thus generating an extremely vast broad audience and marketing appeal.

Part of what sets Sooner Than Later's sound apart from all other bands on the rise in the music industry, is their innate ability to combine the rough, and hard driving, 'in your face' sound of hard rock and metal, and mix it with some very smooth and melodic guitar work, with an abundance of excellent vocal harmonies. The level of excellence of musicianship of each individual member of Sooner Than Later is nothing less than impressive. (No kidding.) Each member of this outstanding band are true contenders that can stand proud against just about any major headlining artist in their field of expertise. Put them together in one band, covering a number of different genres, and THAT'S the stuff that music industry legends are made of. This fact is exhibited both in the quality of Sooner Than Later's latest independently produced CD, "Life", and shines equally as true in their live performances, which has enough energy, showmanship and stage dynamics to light up and run every executive's office in the music industry.

To list just a few of Sooner Than Later's accomplishments thus far:

According to the band's spokesperson, Sooner Than Later has either performed with or opened for such great acts as Seether, Shinedown, Puddle of Mudd, Bullet for My Valentine, Apocalypica, Sick Puppies, Story of the Year, Blacktide, Saving Abel, Forbidden Theroy, Ludo, and Redline Chemestry amongst others.

*November 2008, Music from STL's CD "Life" is selected for the film, "The Path of Torment".

*December 2008, Sooner Than Later signs on with N Music Group as exclusive producers/performers for "Standoff.”

January 2009, Sooner Than Later records two demo tracks with N Music Group for "Standoff" project.

And no doubt, many great things are to come in 2009 for the band Sooner Than Later.

Though Sooner Than Later's sound is totally unparalleled, distinct and unique, if I had to describe Sooner Than Later as sounding like any other band or bands, I would have to say they were (sort of), a cross between Dio and Living Colour. Though trace elements of Sooner Than Later's musical influences can be heard at times within the band's music. Their influences include: Jimi Hendrix, Sevendust, Incubus, Avenge Sevenfold, Metallica, Three Days Grace, Limp Bizkit, Breaking Benjamin, Dark New Day, Hed PE, Disturbed, Led Zeppelin, Rob Zombie, Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins, Offspring, Nirvana, Alice In Chains, and others.

Their caliber of musicianship is only gained by extreme amounts of dedication to their musical product and professionalism, which is very evident, both in their performances as well as when dealing with members of this outstanding band on an executive level.

One can gain more info on Sooner Than Later, and hear Sooner Than Later's music for themselves by visiting their My Space site at www.myspace.com/STLMusicRocks. Sooner Than Later's smoking hot latest CD, "Life" which was unofficially released 2-8-08 and was officially released worldwide in October 2008, can be purchased at most all major online purchasing outlets such as: I Tunes, Napster, Rhapsody, BestBuy.com, Amazon.com and at www.myspace.com/STLMusicRocks or at www.myspace/centerstagemerch. Also in stores in the key markets listed above.

Of course a tour is underway to promote their latest CD "Life", titled "The Keep on Keepin' On Tour", and Sooner Than Later are appreciative of such sponsors as: Guitar Center, In Tune Guitar Picks, LVC Incorporated, and Center Stage Merch. Sooner Than Later is seeking and accepting further sponsorship for this tour, which the band would very much like to extend this tour all over the US and would welcome the opportunity to extend the tour and perform for their fans in Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, a number of European and Asian destinations, Africa, Australia and everywhere their fans demand. Sooner Than Later would also relish the experience of performing for our Military troops serving at home and/or abroad.

Being both the Manager of the Florida office of T&T Management and Booking Agency, and a booking agent there, as well as handling their PR, press and media relations account through my own company MINDSWEEP Entertainment & Promotions, of course I will be turning the CEO of T&T, Mr. Tony Saldano, on to the music of Sooner Than Later, with a strong recommendation for signing them to the roster of T&T, (which has more than 300 headlining names on T&T's impressive roster), on his next visit to the Florida office, in the very near future. Meanwhile, if venues and talent buyers wish to book Sooner Than Later, or major headlining acts wish to have Sooner Than Later as their touring opening act, contact STLmusicrocks@yahoo.com.

Sooner Than Later has already gained the experience of opening for a number of regional and national acts, and is open to do so again on "The Keep on Keepin' On Tour", and would make a very viable opener for just about any 'heavy hitting' headlining act. (I would strongly advise that they be one of the better ones, as Sooner Than Later are truly bad a$$ed. Sooner Than Later would definitely be an excellent choice to increase a headliner’s concert ticket sales from the track record of their performances, as well as factoring in that they will be attracting and gaining plenty more press and media exposure soon to come.)

We at the office of Mindsweep Entertainment & Promotions are totally 'turned on' to Sooner Than Later, and are more than willing to back them up press and media relations wise on their rise to success, and have our company's total professional endorsement, and in fact, we are proud to work with this great band, and yes, stake our professional reputations on them. So therefore, one can expect to read more articles on Sooner Than Later coming from our office in the future.

It doesn't take a crystal ball or a team of psychic gypsy specialists to predict as an exec, that this band will be major headlining artists possibly within the next couple of years, and are indeed gaining traction on the road to major music industry success. (Sooner Than Later).

THE END.

Bio

Born 2006, in St. Louis, MO, Sooner Than Later has become an icon in the local music scene. Powered by Mo on the bass, and JoeT on drums, their sound is solid and hard-hitting. Infused with dynamic riffs by Kyle on lead guitar and Josh rhythm, the sound is unmatched and unique.

The road that took them to the eventual climax of perfect collaboration was a rough one. It started with an earlier band, Trypnotic, but conflicts with future aspirations led to an eventual split. Eager to find catalysis, the search for a guitarist started and the call was answered by Kyle. The rest is history. Life , the debut album was released in October 2008 by EliteRock Records and can be found in record stores and online everywhere.

If you want in your face rock with an aggressive, high energy stage show, this is the band for you. Hope to see you there rockin Sooner than Later!!
