"ST/MiC Releases "On My Days Off...""

Lush melodies, soul driven samples and an incredibly polished sound sets the mood for this quality instrumental release from ST/MIC. Gritty laid back beats with a superb use of horns gives this release a level of sophistication and class that all producers seek, yet few obtain.

Drawing on influences such as hip hop, drum and bass and orchestral scores, ST/MIC blends organic and synth sounds together with pure style and soul. Constantly drifting between light and dark, "On my days off" offers a highly emotive sound scape that can best be described as an insightful and thought provoking musical journey. This album simply oozes class and is a testament to ST/MIC's experience and years in the industry.

A must for fans of reflective soul driven hip hop. - Vibra Online

"Interview with ST/MiC (translated from Japanese)"

“Inquiring about the first of RUN-DMC, [butsu] it was thrown, it is”

--- You question with your album sale [me]!

ST/MiC (below S) Very much thank you. Dream of music being two in me, one was release to do [vuainaru] and that already one release does the work in Japan. With the favor of Yanase Productions, the dream became actuality, it is.

--- First concerning the origin of your artist name teaching.

But “saint mike” ([seintomaiku]) with you pronounce the name, S ST/MiC, it is that is my DJ name, " saint michael” ([seintomaikeru]) with developing from the name which is said, it is thing what which it is possible. But the Sinestro [tsu] [te] name what which is received in DJ of the friend who is said when I begin MCing, it is the shortening red sandal wood in method of writing, ST/MiC.

--- However it was written on MySpace, from around 13 years old including the musical instrument passing… you do what kind of musical instrument?

S really, when still being about 5 years old, the thing will be hit with the drum stick, that the saxophone of the older brother will be performed, when challenging from, you can call music life that you started, don't you think?. At the time of 12 years old having buying the based guitar to the parent, it began the performance of music in earnest, it is. Obtaining the electricity guitar one year later, it received also the formal lesson. When obtaining drum set with 14 years old, favoring to enthusiastic teacher, valuable time was passed. Buying the set of the turntable and the DJ mixer with 16 years old, the road to the club music opened from there, it is. It started producing itself music with 17 years old, with 18 years old learning the foundation of the engineering started. After everyone knowing, it is sort.

--- Details to debut are taught?

This album ('Life's Work') it started tackling from, S 2004 latter half it is. Then 3 years spending, until it becomes current shape, it enhanced contents thoroughly. If also the tune which this time could not be recorded in the album, release is possible once upon a time, with you think, it is.

ST/MiC

--- As for the opportunity which starts inquiring about Hip Hop and the opportunity which is started making? In addition, when it is other genre, what kind of you hear?

You have heard from Hip Hop S 1985. Inquiring about the first of RUN-DMC, [butsu] it was thrown, it is. So far, because it was something which is different also some music which is heard don't you think?. Then as it keeps growing, it reached the point where it mentions all music. The conventional country music like Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson liked the parents and, I the lock/heavy metal like Guns N' Roses and Metallica, had heard also the flat tire lock and the Nuclear Assault like slash metal like Operation Ivy and Minor Threat. But inquiring about Beastie Boys, RUN-DMC, Kurtis Blow and The COLD Crush Brothers, it encountered Hip Hop which, is truth music for me it is. (To tell the truth Almighty Kay of COLD Crush Brothers Gee, afterwards very tight it becomes relationship, but is you take this story for another interview! ).

Time of 19 years old, Mr. Uniting the [hadokoa] band, Pane, however it hurt, there I in order to scratch with 2 turntables, sounded the sample from Triton, performed the keyboard. Don't you think? the same time, the large quantity it made also the tune of the [doramunbesu] pitch which is classified into the genre, Tech Step. Both are the hard cores. Now however it has produced without experimental music and distinguishing Hip Hop, as for that Jazz, Metal, Hip Hop and Jungle/Drum and Bass etc, it is influence what which is received from all musics which you experienced until now.
Also a kind of inevitability feels in the behavior that, “you record your own heart to the tape, it is”

--- In Japan as for frame of mind concerning album release?

S Honor it puts out, has been excited simultaneously very. With the carrier of music and both sides of privacy, the kind of feeling which achieve your own goal.

--- Something work other than music has done?

The only work other than S don't you think? music 2 sons, is to raise [andoriyu] [oshirisu] and [mairusu] [deibitsudo]. As for parenting you think that it is the most splendid work in the world. I, that feel whether by my there is no happiest human in the world, it is.

--- The artist who until now receives influence and favorite the artist it enters?

S J Dilla/Jay Dee and Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Madlib, DJ Krush, DJ Shadow, Sadao Watanabe, Sergio Mendez, Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Jazz Addixx, De La Soul, Hi-Tek and Black Star (Mos Def and Talib Kweli), Boot Camp Clik, RJD2, Atmosphere and MF DOOM…However, still the large quantity it is, as for now happening to think this extent kana.

--- You teach concerning the American underground hip hop scene?

It is S very good atmosphere. The many kids support the artist and, everyone music is loved. Simply, because [katsukoii] it has been popular, however the party where enters to the scene in just the reason which is said it is, don't you think?. Such party causes trouble directly, makes the time when everyone enjoys ruinous, it is….

But my private opinion now as for the underground scene of America there is a very harsh circumstance. Of course as for this, however it is not the story which is limited to the hip hop don't you think?. Now everyone being able to buy the equipment and material with ease, music production is possible at the home. But with the favor where the artist is present the large quantity easily, now the market has become saturated state, it is. Of course, even the artist who is talent the large quantity it is however it is not the case that it is worried that much and, concerning this problem don't you think?. Also a kind of inevitability feels in the behavior that, I produce, love music production record my own heart to the tape it is. When the fish needs the water, in the same way, that is important thing what for me.

stmic

--- You teach concerning present production activity?

They are the S various under ways. In strike work release we would like to do and, also another solo project is under way what. To in addition to, the Metal Militia [tsu] [te] the Hip Hop group which is said was begun with total 6 of MC and the producers, it is. As for that, the Wu-Tang clan [te] 2099 the image kana which is said. Also Bliss-One of partner album while producing, as for progress 50% [tsu] [te] place kana. 'The Philosopher's Stone and Other Useless Items' [te] it is title what which is said.

--- Lastly in the Japanese fan message.

About S my music inquiring, thank you for. When you get wise Seoul which is included in the work, it is delightful. As that and, in the owner and the promoter of club of your local end, called me in Japan, you ask. I would like to do on the earth tour in the most splendid country and Japan, it is.

Bio

Soulfully inclined producer, MC, and turntablist ST/MiC (pronounced "saint mike") was a musical prodigy at a young age, learning to play the bass, guitar, and drums all by the time he was 14. In high school, he shifted from live instruments to sample-based electronics and DJing, and studied under house-dance remixer and producer Holmes Ives. Using the spelled out moniker "St. Michael," he cut his teeth as a DJ on the East Coast's electronic dance scene, performing his hip-hop and drum'n'bass productions throughout the 90s. His first release on wax was the drum'n'bass cut "Scared Before," issued by Random Recordings in 1998. He also made many appearances on mixtapes by frequent collaborator DJ Ragz, one-half of hip-hop group Jazz Addixx. Though he released more recordings in the 2000s, including some low-key EPs and collaborative projects with rappers the Unknown and other half of Jazz Addixx, M.U.D.D., he devoted his time to honing his production and audio engineering skills, and he eventually settled down in Virginia. In that time, he was responsible for mixing down songs for Skillz, Rass Kass, C-Rayz Walz, Cris Prolific (featuring artists such as: Guilty Simpson, Baatin of Slum Village, Illa J, Phat Kat, Black Milk and More) and, of course, Jazz Addixx. In 2007, Australian-based Vibra Online issued ST/MiC's first full-fledged effort, the MP3-only On My Days Off, an instrumental LP combining edgy, angular drum'n'bass with relaxing, downtempo soul. The decidedly hip-hop album, Life's Work, featuring guest spots and production by the Unknown and Jazz Addixx, arrived a year later on Domination Recordings. ~ Cyril Cordor, All Music Guide
