Stoney Joe's style can roughly be described as Country and Western Electro Noir. The music is inspired by the great expanses of Western Australia and beyond.

Biography

SStoney Joe get your feet tapping and pull on your heartstrings in the wink of an eye with moonshine vocals and a dizzying array of acoustic and electronic instrumentation.

This Western (Australian) roots act is clearing a new path through the current musical landscape. The band avoids overtly earnest folk pretentions and country-rock clichés. Instead they’ve created their own down-to-earth sound, augmented skilfully with electronic instrumentation. That’s right, we’re talking drum loops and vintage synthesizers here. Those sub-bass frequencies certainly vibrate pleasantly through your body during a mandolin solo!

Four Weeks On

Written By: Roly Skender

He's flyin' north on a plane,
up there the riches fall like rain.
He's workin' day and night,
Don't give the man a hard time.

Says that he loves you, probably quit that job real soon.
Throw in the cigarettes too, soon as the compo cheque come through.

Someone's playin' around,
that's no way to be found.
He's making up for lost time,
To make love work you gotta leave some love behind.

Says that he needs you, but it's four weeks on and it's one week off.
You'll find something to do, with the house and the kids... and the dog

Four weeks on, one week off
Four weeks on, one week off
Four weeks on, one week off
Four weeks on, one week off

Says that he loves you, probably quit that job real soon.
Throw in the cigarettes too, soon as the compo cheque come through.
Says that he needs you, but it's four weeks on and it's one week off.
You'll find something to do, with the house and the kids... and the dog

Brown Bread and Rice

Written By: Roly Skender

Big red sky
With the sun creeping through
Long wire line
Get on the end of that post
and drive it down

When the day is over we sit around
Brown bread and rice, brown bread and rice

Morning bird
Up in the tree, make no sound
Big turning world
Now the mid-day sun
can burn your bones

When the day is over we sit around
Brown bread and rice, brown bread and rice
