Stony Run

Stony Run is a young group who came to Nashville from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It all started with a song, an Inspiration written to a melody. Then there came more songs. Songs that spoke to the heart uplifted the soul and brought smiles to those who heard them. Those songs shaped the lives of Stony Run.

The group is made up of three individuals; Marty Short, his wife, Angela Short and his sister, Anna Ash. There powerhouse harmony blend and unique sound will send chills and captivate any audience. With songs in their back-pockets, vocals trained for success and hearts to entertain they were drawn to Nashville by their deep love for country music.

They left the hollows of Virginia and headed for Tennessee determined to find their place there. It wasn’t more than a few weeks that they were singing their way into the hearts of all who heard them.

Marty Short who sings lead and harmony is also the creative musician within the group. His fun, down to earth personality and his love for music was instilled in him as a child. Marty and his five siblings grew up singing, but it was his older sister Anna Ash who shared the same dream and determination as her baby brother Marty. Geared for success they headed toward their dream.

Anna Ash not only sings lead and harmony but she is a true entertainer. Her love for people shines through both on and off stage.

Along beside the two siblings is Marty’s wife Angela. She sings lead, harmony and writes and co-writes most of the trio’s songs.

It would appear that this group of young people came from out of nowhere but the truth of the matter is that the trio has been singing for years with Marty’s adopted father and his wife, as a family group. It was with their family the soon to be trio of Stony Run developed strong harmonies and dedication. One weekend, Marty’s adopted dad, Eddie Short wrote a song that would lead the trio into the hands of producer James House. The song, “In a Little While” was written in dedication to the miners, who lost their lives in the Sago Mining accident in January, 2006. The song was recorded at The Sound Kitchen and released as a single to country music radio in the summer of 2006. At that point, Stony Run never realized how much that song would change their lives.

Having had a taste of success in the music they had always hoped to be a part of. Marty, Angela, and Anna with the blessings of their family made the transition from the family group to the country powerhouse trio of Stony Run.

With musical influences ranging from Faith Hill and Reba McIntire to the classics like Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, and George Jones; Stony Run has developed a unique style all of their own.

One of the thing's that makes Stony Run special is their down-to-earth attitude toward people. With their drive, quick wittedness, and determination there is no slowing them down. When you think of, “the skies the limit,” you can’t help but think of Stony Run as the next big thing.
