"STOP THE BLACKOUT - 2010 REVIEW"

I’m now sat here listening to Stop the Blackout and I’m writing as I’m listening to the tunes.

Currently on the first song on the MySpace list which is “When the Love’s Not There”. Very tight sound, well executed and straight away on my “one to watch” list. I don’t have a doubt the rest of the songs will be great.

Stop the Blackout appear to have taken their time writing and recording their songs, and it’s time well spent. To record in studios owned by Andy McCluskey with the Arctic Monkey’s producer you can’t lose.

Each member brings something to the mix too which is always a plus. I love the intricate and creative bass playing, the beautiful guitar that knows where the line not to cross is, the soaring synths and of course the full and educated vocal performance. I love the big crescendos some of the songs elevate to. I’m listening to “Fields in Smoke” and that is a great example of this.

Lot’s of consistency too which is very important in an artists early career.

At time of writing (10th Jan) their next gig is at 41 King Street in Blackburn. Get there, enjoy their music and give them and the whole unsigned UK music scene your support. I can imagine live Stop the Blackout are something else.

Bio

Stop The Blackout surfaced after four like-minded musicians agreed Manchester was in need of an exciting new project. Having seen so many quality acts just give up, the band decided things were to change. Time has seen their music evolve into something unique. Their music combines bright modern indie-esq pop tunes with a dark and experimental twist. This is due to a belief that a band should be able to write without boundaries.

The band has played with numerous top acts such as 'Editors’ and ‘Oceansize’ and more recently a tour support to Indie chart-toppers 'One Night Only' after they personally selected 'Stop The Blackout' from thousands of top acts to come and play the Manchester leg of their Sold Out UK Tour.

They have been described as ‘Beautiful’ and ‘World Class’ by Clint Boon (XFM / Inspiral Carpets) after appearing on his ‘Music Response’ on XFM and been played on Alex Zane’s MySpace Chart Show. The band has been likened to acts such as ‘Coldplay’, ‘Elbow’ and ‘U2’, with their music being described as ‘Anthemic’. Having also headlined rammed gigs around the UK including 'Club Fandango' (Fierce Panda Records), 229 in London and Manchester's Academy 2 & 3', they believe the strength of Stop The Blackout lies in their live set.
