Bio
STORMS ARE a new four piece band based in North London whose recent run of debut
shows in venues around the capital have caused quite a stir and already begun to build
them a word of mouth fan-base.
Storms are George Runciman (vocals/guitar), the only true Londoner in the band, Felix
Howes (guitar), Jacob Andersen (bass) and Ben Morgan (drums). And while all four
members hail from different backgrounds and cities, its interesting to note that they all
have one thing in common - they started playing music at a very young age.
Felix starting hammering into his older cousins guitar when he was nine, George,
constantly surrounded by his parents large album collection as a child, started
strumming aged 14, Jacob was (somewhat unwillingly) having piano lessons aged 7 or
8 and Ben - having started banging the tambourine in the school choir aged 5 was
having drumming lessons by the time he was 14.
The seeds were sown then. The four young musicians played locally in bands and
separately pursued their dreams of a career in music. When the gravitational pull of
London - still the world capital for new music - drew them all to the metropolis.
Felix, having arrived in London from rural Northumberland aged 16, played in a number
of bands before running into George (several times) at various London club venues.
The two hit it off and when they both found themselves unhappy with the bands they
were in, decided to form their own.
Meanwhile Jacob had left his native Denmark and had arrived in darkest Wiltshire
where he had been playing with three friends playing everything from Jazz to Folk and
gaining not only a broad musical canvas on which to work, but becoming something of
a multi-instrumentalist through necessity as much as anything. He saw an ad in
Gumtree. The ad was placed by George and Felix. Enter Jacob.
The final part of the jigsaw that makes up Storms is drummer Ben Morgan. Born in
Wales, Ben did a music degree in Brighton and played in a local band there before
relocating to London and working as a session drummer with a variety of artists that
included Ladyhawke and Patrick Wolfe. When the three guys parted company with their
fist drummer it was Ben who answered the call, and thus Storms came into being in
late 2012.
As previously mentioned the band are now gigging regularly. They have just signed
with a major booking agency and are now hoping to take the raw energy and excitement
of their live show further afield. Plans also include recording and releasing a EP during
the summer. In fact Storms have many plans, and having survived the very tough
musical apprenticeship they have all separately endured - they are now delighted to be
playing the music they always wanted to play. Its likely audiences will feel the same
way.
