Bio

Strait Laces hail from the windy North West coast of Ireland. Since 2008 they’ve been unleashing their unique brand of schizophrenic-punk-rock on unsuspecting audiences all over the world.

In 2009 they showcased at a number of high profile events including UnConvention, Trans Urban Arts Festival, Liverpool Sound City and Eurocultured. In the summer of 2009 Strait Laces were crowned winners of the 30/30 competition, and before long they were whisked off to EMI studios to work with Joe Fields (Paul McCarntey, Iggy Pop, Akon, Dido, Placebo).

In 2010 they brought the party to SXSW in Texas, playing a whopping 9 shows over the course of the festival.
After a UK tour in May 2010, Strait Laces are currently working their way round the Irish festival circuit before heading back to the studio in September to finish recording of their debut album.

Praise for their live shows as well as recording has been high, with support from NME, XFM, BBC Radio One, BBC NI, Hot Press, Rock Sound and Phantom FM helping to fuel the fires of success.

Their new single, a crowd favourite at live shows, ‘Where The Wolf Roam’ is being released on 11th October. It brings out a darker, more sinister side to the band and has a video to match. The B-side ‘Guiltshake’ highlights the band’s trademark syncopated beats and time shifts with a chanty riff declaring “I’ve got some friends that you wouldn’t be mates with, these boys were raised on the wrong side of town”. A tale of paramilitary intimidation that can only be told by a Northern Irish band.

Praise for Strait Laces:

"Chunky, Ballsy... A little bit sinister... all delivered with admirable energy by a band it's easy to like" - BBC NI

"The electricity of Foals, the swagger of Arctic Monkeys and the shouty confidence of Bloc Party, Strait Laces...bring the party every time." - Belfast Trans Festival

"Their live set has always been brilliant!... certainly know how to work the crowd" - GiggingNI.com

"Pitch-perfect pop music with plenty of lyrical bite." - AU Magazine

"[Kids Like John Need A Hero] is a complex and accomplished tune and, quite frankly, a total surprise. Thoughtful, but they're giving it loads - in short, these kids got moxy." - HotPress Magazine

"At times, the band embraces pop sensibilities that other UK indie contemporaries like Bloc Party and Wombats are best known for, which is good for setting its hooks into you, but it's when they tear into their trademark chunky riffs with elements of hardcore that really reel you in." – About.Punk.com
