Strange Attractor

Given an overlap of the Gigonometry we managed to catch Echotape midway through their gig. They were fantastic and deserving of an honourable mention. The final act on the night here in Sweeney’s was Strange Attractor, who are from Dingle. The first thing that caught our attention was their frontman Fionn O’Neill’s stage appearance. Wearing a bowling hat with a light bulb on top was brilliant. The manic appearance just drew us to them for that showing of confidence alone.

They got things underway with ‘I’ve Got This Feeling I’m Dead’ and it is an effort with a considerably cool showing to it all. How they get their groove on is shown in a way that perfectly underlines this. The delivery is kept in check with a carefully considered trait that worked the crowd superbly. With them feeding off their presence they launched into a version of ‘Use Me’ by Bill Withers and then brought the crowd back into the palm of their hand with ‘Fish In The Sky’. Here everything is brought around in the right way. How things moves reflect this and it is a smooth turn that brings with it all a noted degree of maturity that rides in firmly.

Again the good hooks paly their part in a noted way on ‘Read About It’. The volume gives it lift in a notable way. It is a chic affair with a catchy style that fashionably turns things on. This is what helps to steer the dynamic into place. That rich display of appreciation in how the music comes to break down is there by design. Off the back of that comes the equally sharp ‘Wacky World’. It steps out off the back of a sharp and confident pitch. How that bears down leaves its mark. The pace is delivered in a way that is suited to the structure and steadies what is fastened to the running. That is what makes the cool showing here the hugely inviting feature it is because here is an accomplished effort that travels well as the full calling of the band contributes so much here. They prevail again with a catchy disco heart on ‘Keep Your Mind Moving’. This gets moving in a way that captures a solid sense of regression that the band are also comfortable in handling, That balanced showing in terms of how everything is backed up by the band shows.

IMG_0586Things are followed up by another boisterous number with ‘Bongo Bong’. They raise the bar here somewhat and that is a careful showing that is brought through with immense tenacity, but reeled in. That travels well and confirms the positive vibrancy they have about their live presence. What comes across is confirmed by a vibrancy that locks in on everything that matters. What also hits you here is an assured wave of confidence. Yet they seem to revel in the said splendour here with an upbeat showing to match their comfortable stage presence, especially in consideration with the quickening of the pace here.

As ‘Nothing To Take’ begins to move it takes things where they need to go. How they deliver in that regard takes things away off the back of that with real flair. That constructive feature brings about a sense of revelry that was not necessarily present on other tracks until now. The pinches in the delivery, coupled with their precision, help the band to work their magic. ‘Zombies’ followed and this is another crowd pleaser. Here they invest a tumble within the play that gets beneath it all in a way that works buoyantly. That is what increases the pace to the rate it is carried through off the back of. Again they seem to comfortably bring a stronger feel to the bass with ‘Off The Wall Or Not At All’. In how it cuts to the chase there is a bounced added to the showing that is considerably refined. The drumming also keeps everything in check here. You also consider that the way the song is approached is all built around how it breaks down. The proven showing feeds off those robust qualities and yet nothing goes a begging. The crowd wanted one more tune and they duly obliged with a fine rendition of ‘Get Down Tonight’ by KC And The Sunshine Band. Overall, this was a solid set from start to finish and put down a fine marker for their upcoming album launch gig in The Sugar Club on April 21st. - Unsigned and Independent
