Earlier this year appeared House of Four And Hearts (own management) by Strange rebel Frequency. Well, the music of Strange Rebel Frequency originating from Los Angeles therefore, whose sound considerable obscurity. "Where are the suicide girls that I once knew," with those words start the first number All Souls Rising. Strange rebel Frequency are the brainchild of David M. Cross (voice, guitar, bass, percussion, banjo), with Maree Tarver (voice) and Timothy Benton (guitar) on its side. The voice of David seems to have two drops of whisky on those of Mark Lanegan. House of Four And Hearts has the same environment as The Winding Sheet, the first solo album of the singer of the Screaming Trees. That dark voice of David is remarkable, because on the MySpace page of Strange Rebel Freqency the guy looks still young. The songs concerning love, likes, death and loss has the same urgency as the American Recordings of Johnny Cash or the work of Nick Cave. From David M. Strange Rebel Frequency is a recently formed musical collective based in Southern California, that plays a stripped down, heartfelt, acoustic-based alternative or "Americana" type of music with a slow, melancholic element. They have been compared to artists such as Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Nick Cave, and even Bruce Springsteen, as well as contemporary Americana/indie artists like Wilco, Iron & Wine, and Will Oldham. They have very strong songs, a unique identity and vision, and will be a powerful and emotive live experience. Their music could have a very wide appeal.
Strange Rebel Frequency is currently not signed to any label and have no distribution deal. We released our first CD House of Four and Hearts (2006) on our own. We received many kudos for that self-produced album, which sells via CDBaby, iTunes, Rhapsody, et cetera.
We are now looking for distribution for our second self-released CD, which we expect to be completed by May 2007. More expansive, the album stretches from a full-on rocker to a Neko Case-style torch song when Maree takes to the fore on one song. Basically, we’ve got the goods. An artist can work a lifetime without ever finding a unique voice. We have that already and there is a niche audience out there that will go bonkers over our music. Now we just need a good partnership to reach those people.
