Strategy The Energy Band

In November 2004, Strategy the Band was formed out of a determination to satisfy the need of the Caribbean market thirsting for quality live entertainment from a versatile band. Encompassing the genres of Hip Hop, R&B, Soca, Alternative, Dancehall & Reggae, and with a "new releases" to "back in time" range, the "strategy" is quite simply - to transcend the traditional audience segmentation. Strategy's repertoire includes both contemporary covers and hot originals penned by the band's members, Tejay, Kirk Brown and Slimz.

TEJAY - Lead Singer

Diva in the making. Fiery, sensual, beautiful and fierce, Tonya Tejay Montague has risen to become the hottest female vocalist in Barbados music arena.

Like so many others, Tejay began her singing career in the church where she performed in numerous choirs and groups. However, her smooth, alto voice and thirst for success were destined to take her to far bigger stages. Tejay joined the award-winning gospel group "Instruments of Praise", which allowed her to expand beyond the gospel realm into the more secular area of Caribbean Jazz, and led to her first recording project as a background vocalist on the group's debut CD "First Steps". Those first steps were certainly that, as appearances at Barbados Gospel Fest and later the acclaimed Barbados Jazz Festival soon followed.

Emerging from the background, Tejay finally took her talent where it belonged-center stage- when she joined Strategy in November, 2004 as the sole female vocalist. With each performance she brings sophistication and style to the stage. Her gospel background belies the ease with which she delivers on the group's calypso and R&B tracks, yet her church-honed soulful vocal delivery sets her apart from her contemporaries.

With Strategy, she got the opportunity to share the stage with major international stars and is undoubtedly a singer, performer and a skilled songwriter who is destined for true success.

KIRK BROWN - Lead Singer

A World-class entity hidden for just over twenty years in the beautiful island of Barbados. This entertainment dynamo, known as Kirk Brown, is clearly one of the brightest stars on Barbados' musical horizon placing him in the elite class of young, upcoming faces in regional music.

Kirk is a multitalented artiste, actor, model and businessman, with a passion and love for music. As a student of the St. Michael's Secondary school in Barbados, Brown honed his musical ambitions. Specializing in brass instruments such as the trumpet, trombone and the winded saxophone, he joined his high school music band and the Barbados Youth Orchestra. After completing high school, Brown pursued studies in Canada. Upon returning to Barbados, Brown put his musical ambitions on hold and joined the tourism sector, quickly rising to a managerial post at one of the Barbados' top hotels.

True to his love, Kirk jumped at the chance to hit the stage with the brand new band BLAZE in the summer of 2003, as one of the lead vocalists. He quickly developed a love for the stage and soon left the hotel industry to focus his energies on music. BLAZE was short lived and in early 2004 Kirk was invited to join the front line of the Toni Norville Band. As a member of an already established band with a loyal following, Brown quickly became known for his high-energy performances, undeniable sex appeal and smooth dancehall renditions. With experience under his belt, Kirk Brown founded his own band,Strategy the Band, in November 2004.

A truly self-motivated individual, Kirk lives by the motto "Music Knows No Limits" and as testament, he is breaking the mold and paving the way for aspiring Caribbean artistes.

MIKEY ROSS - Keyboardist

David Michael Anthony Ross was born on December 25, 1980, in Skeldon Berbice, Guyana. He discovered his love for music as a child growing up in the church, where he obtained his first instrument, the keyboard, and the musical love affair began.

Although most would have chosen the traditional path and gone to music school, Michael opted for a more practical direct approach. He went to clubs, churches, wherever music could be found. It was a difficult road, but through determination and will, he learned to play by ear.

On graduating from high school, Ross successfully completed an audition with a band called Jerusalem and immediately went on his first tour, to Venezuela, Suriname and Brazil for (9) months with them. The band split soon after the tour and he later joined a band called Sheriff Deputies.

While playing with Sheriff Deputies one night at the National Park in Guyana, the musical director of the reggae legend, Luciano’s band approached Ross. Their regular keyboardist had temporarily left and he was invited to fill the position. This fantastic opportunity of performing with a well known artist propelled Michael onto a completely different level.
