Bio

Step into any of America’s renowned juke joints, jazz clubs, honkey tonks and biker bars. Join in the magic of the final hours of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Attend any of the major musical festivals coast to coast or visit the clubs of Nashville’s historic Lower Broadway. If you have had the opportunity to be a part of any of these experiences, chances are you will have heard of acclaimed guitarist and singer-songwriter Smokin’ Ed Hubble.

Smokin’ Ed’s life has been a quest to master American music. He has spent the last 30 years doing just that. Touring, playing and being showcased throughout the country. Mastering and utilizing the best elements of blues, rock, jazz, and hillbilly genres. Smokin’ Ed magically blends these styles together and creates distinctive and extraordinary original music and songs filled with chill inducing guitar riffs, sustained bent notes, and a mixture of squeals, wails, and harmonics. Smokin’ Ed’s songs are a reflection of life on the run, lifetime friendships, and friends lives lost, of heartbreak and loneliness, of laughter and pain, of being in life’s lowest places and fighting your way back, making something of your life. It’s about coming to terms and at peace with one’s self and a triumph of spirit. It reflects the will never to give up on a dream and the appreciation of freedom.

As son of jazz Hall of Fame trombonist, Eddie Hubble, Smokin’ Ed was provided his jazz influences at an early age by frequent visits to his home by such legends as Louis Armstrong, Vic Dickerson and Buddy Rich. Ed was given his first guitar, a 1959 Kay Flattop, when he was 8 years old. Guitar became the first love of Ed’s life and it was apparent early on that he had a natural gift for playing. Ed preferred blues and rock rather than the current top 40. He was influenced by Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Roy Buchanan, Chet Atkins, and Howard Roberts.

Ed began his quest to master American music when he was 16. He packed his guitar, left home and headed to Chicago’s South Side. He would sit in the back of juke joints and learn the licks of the Old Blues Masters. His quest then took him from New York to New Orleans to learn from the best jazz and blues players followed by Tennessee to learn from the best hillbilly players. By this time Ed had come into his own, earning the reputation of being an immensely diversified and talented, a player’s player. This reputation has afforded him the opportunity to close the 2002 Winter Olympics at Washington Square, and to play with such greats Muddy Waters, Johnny Winters The Charlie Daniels Band, Tanya Tucker, Otis Redding, Santana, David Allen Coe, Doug Dillard, Taj Mahal and others.
