It’s 7:40 PM, on a blustery Saturday evening. I enter the cafe and on the red velveteen couch sits a contemplative, put together young woman. We speak; syllables slide casually and cool out of Emily McLean’s lips, although the espresso machine percolates something hot, her calm aura chills the air around us. Don’t be fooled by her peaceful demeanor, there’s a ferocious singer, songwriter, musician, producer, and one woman jam within her serenity. Now living in San Francisco, by way of New York, Emily’s recently released EP, PS1, graces the airwaves tonight. Tonight’s episode embraces our sensuality and McLean’s soulful neo-jazz reconnects with that sense of self. - Sanguine Soul Radio
Emily McLean, graduate of the New School of Music in New York, performed with her band, Stringer Belle, not to confused with the punk band, Stringer Bell(no e). The group has been playing together for 3 months now, and are on their way to gelling nicely. Brother of Emily, Matt McLean shares composing and songwriting duties with his sis, giving us a great mix of Soul & Indie skaa rock. She seemed a little on the shy/nervous side at first, but maybe that was just feeling the fragility of the tune, soft and slow. However, once the band got going, and she warmed up a bit, the voice of a goddess was let loose, and I wanted to jump out of my seat and yell "Aleluja!" Instead "Like THAT!" is what actually came out of my mouth. - Oakland Local

Bio
Stringer Belle was born out of a jam session in Philadelphia in 2002, when Matt McLean put music to a song written, at age 13, by his sister Emily Mclean. Six years later they recorded their first EP, Pillowblock, in a closet/studio in Matt’s San Francisco apartment and began performing as a duo. Since, Stringer Belle has grown into a four-piece band, with bassist Paul O’Leary and drummer Will Boast.
Stringer Belle's unique soul sound draws on hip-hop and early 90s R&B, but also references folk and indie-rock influences. The band performs frequently around the Bay Area. Look out for a new EP from Stringer Belle this winter.
