Bio

The Strolling Scones is a Colorado-based rock oriented band featuring multi-intrumentalist/singer/songwriter Rick Stockton and singer/bassist Helen Highwater.

Rick & Helen have performed throughout the US from coast to coast with various musical groups including the Austin based Primitive Moderns and the 3 In The Morning Band. Rick has received several songwriting honors, including being a 2 time Kerrville New Folk (not just folk music) finalist. He has produced and recorded projects ranging from jazz to country & western for musicians in Texas and the western states. Helen’s supportive vocals and bass playing has appeared on many albums and sessions by other artists. Rick also authored the music for the musical, The Bremen Musicians, which had a successful multiple-month run in Denver and has since had several revivals.

Often augmented with drums, horns, and supporting vocalists, the Strolling Scones have performed to wildly enthusiastic audiences all over the Western States region. The group has made a name for itself by mining the creative, adventurous, and sheer fun qualities from that, brief but influential, musical period from 1964 through 1969. The band’s beat oriented music is centered around harmony, melodic songs, and guitar driven sounds. Vintage Guitar Magazine has recognized the Scones with a feature article about lead guitarist Rick Stockton, and also had glowing reviews of the band’s 1st and 2nd albums. Critics say “their mastery of mid to late 60’s pop/psych is uncanny” and have called their sound “retro and modern at the same time!” Although the band’s first two records were largely original, the groups most recent release, Two Vegans, is a fun romp (with a Scone’s twist) through some cool songs from the most significant musical year of the 60s... 1967.
