Biography

Strydir Lee has a one of a kind sound blending elements of rock, funk, blues, folk, and jazz. From early on the band's has experienced national and international exposure through their appearance on Mitch Albom's radio show, and various internet radio stations. Singer/Songwriter Nick Leyand is a prolific songwriter that provides the majority of the band's material, although significant writing contributions have been made by all band members. Strydir Lee was founded by Nick Leyland and drummer Jon Wilson in early 1998. At the time Nick was playing with the band Middle Earth. Middle Earth's drummer was unable to play a particular gig, so they called upon Jon Wilson to fill in. Jon played the gig with the Middle Earth and immediately the jazz/pop influences that Jon brought to the band inspired Nick to break off and work with Jon. Thier collaboration led to the creatation of a new and unique sound. After a few months of working out new musical ideas, Nick and Jon were joined by lead guitarist Ron Dielman. In 1999 the band recorded their first self titled LP at the Creme Delux studios under the guidance of Jared Levengood. After multiple follow up albums, Jared is now a full fledged member of the roster as the bassist. The band is pleased to announce the release of the recently completed album Phony Cosmic Clues. The fifth in a line of unique and musically evolving albums.

Lyrics

Skeletons Always Smile

Written By: Nick Leyland

You say you like it when your heart breaks,
It really makes you feel alive.
You wanna make love when the thunder shakes,
The lightning wakes you up inside.

Cause baby sometimes I can't hide,
All the feelings of a man past his prime.
Cause when we're alive we cry too much about dying,
But I hear we get used to it after awhile,
Cause baby, skeletons always smile.

You say you like it when the day ends,
You feel happier at night.
You love the way the moon pales the afternoon,
It's such a devilish sweet delight.

But baby sometimes I don't mind,
If the world takes me down before my time.
Cause when we're alive we cry too much about dying,
But I hear we get used to it after awhile,
Cause baby skeletons always smile.

Strangers View

Written By: Nick Leyland

On and on your singing songs how the world keeps screwing you
The universe is a human curse and its truth is fading through

When you feel like you can't escape
And all your dreams you're wide awake
When all the walls around you break
All you can do is see your life in a strangers view

I wonder what they'll do to me if I'm talking to myself
They'll put me in a home all alone my own personal hell

When you feel like you've been erased
And all your thoughts lay upon your face
Looking around at empty space
All you can do is see your life in a strangers view

All you can do is take the world that you knew
And throw it all out of view until your mind decides
You're taking your time you find you're lagging behind
And it takes more than dimes to prove you're someone too
What strangers eyes can do

When memories and harmonies seem to all be out of sink
And confusions and illusions are all you ever think

When you feel like you're losing faith
And in your heart you refuse to wait
But time has brought the earth to shake
And all you can do is see your life in a strangers view

When you feel like you can't escape
And all your dreams you're wide awake
When all the walls around you break
All you can do is see your life in a strangers view

All you can do is take the world that you knew
And throw it all out of view until your mind decides
You're taking your time you find you're lagging behind
And it takes more than dimes to prove you're someone too
What strangers eyes can do

Diamonds Only Get in the Way

Diamonds Only Get in the Way
(Nick Leyland)

Ring ding dong if you want to sing along to the
Beat of the song when you're dancing on your lawn
And shake it on to the walls of the music hall

Ring ding dong if you want to sing along to the
Beat of the song when you're dancing on your lawn
And shake it on to the walls of the music hall

I wanna ride the waves
The ocean craves to
Feed me one by one

I wanna do to you
Like only heaven can do
I wanna do something different everyday
But those diamonds only get in the way

Ring ding dong if you want to sing along to the
Beat of the song when you're dancing on your lawn
And shake it on to the walls of the music hall

I wanna climb a rock
I wanna get to the top
I wanna step on the highest point of earth

I wanna play guitar
In a famous bar
I wanna watch all the crowd begin to sway
But those diamonds only get in the way

It's been a long along a long along time since I can finally hide the
Ties that bind my hands and make me sing out

Ring ding dong if you want to sing along to the
Beat of the song when you're dancing on your lawn
And shake it on to the walls of the music hall

I wanna jump from planes
And watch the land retain
I wanna feel the cool air on my face

I wanna ride around
With people chasing me down
I wanna live like an outlaw for a day
But those diamonds only get in the way

It's been a long along a long along time since I can finally hide the
Ties that bind my hands and make me sing out

Ring a ding dong
