Stuart Sakoda EP - (Self Released - November 2006)

Feeling a bit camera shy

The saying goes that a talented artist only needs two pieces of equipment: a guitar and a mic. Seattle-based singer/songwriter/musician Stuart Sakoda is one of those artists. With a beat-up guitar in hand and sheer talent, Stuart is not shy to let the music at its purest form speak for itself. With his powerful vocals that soar confidently over catchy melodies and solid lyrical content, audiences are engaged by the genuine, impassionate, and captivating presence of his music.

With his self-released debut EP album, Stuart alongside local producer Andrew Shim have put together a four-song compilation of his work from 2001-2006. His introspective songwriting style brings to the surface the innate spiritual tensions deep within the soul, yet throughout his music there can always be found elements of faith, hope, and love that are the underlying principles for his inspiration.

“Music has always been in some sense like therapy, because I enjoyed artists who could capture an emotion in words and melody, giving me an outlet for a specific way I may be feeling in that moment; I want my music to be a part of those moments for others.”

Originally a poet, Stuart would write as a personal emotional outlet, but he soon began to share his work with others and has had several of his poems published in poetry books and local magazines. It was only a matter of time before his love for poetry and music would make a beautiful collision at the age of 16. This beautiful collision took place in the wake of the Beatles anthology in the mid-90’s which was the initial inspiration for Stuart to pick up the guitar. At the age of 17, Stuart wrote his first song, and would go on to perform for his highschool senior class, college talent shows and local venues.

Currently, Stuart has been writing new material that he considers his most prolific work yet, and was recently announced a finalist in the 2006 International Acoustic Music Awards (IAMA) for his song “Fading Away”.
