Bio

At the basis of every action is an idea. For each of us individually the foundation is a strong desire to play music, whether we play only for ourselves to hear, or with a friend to share a common experience. In late October of 2005 this is where we were.

At the basis of Submergency is -Meridian-. Meridian started as just an idea, quite simply put Mike Dodson and Dustin Jones playing guitars and trying to build songs from the ground up. When it became evident they wanted to go to the next level and pursue a bassist and drummer. They decided to call longtime friend and bassist from previous bands, Mark Worley. With Mark on board he suggested they call Tony Barber (aka Pickle) a friend and drummer from their earlier band, Accountable. Now with all the pieces together they started meeting for practice sessions. At one of these early practice sessions I, Brodie, was still a spectator, but I heard something unique happening and asked if I could sit in……and in efforts to keep a long story a little shorter, lets just say that unique sound I heard wasn’t us building our sound; it was our sound building us.

The passing of that first year saw several changes. The hardest one to face was when Mike made the decision to leave the band to join the Air Force. We didn’t see it coming but we knew it was a choice he had to make. The other changes we faced were just the simple changes time brings to everyone. Time showed us how to work together in a way that gets the best out of each one of us. That pretty much brought us to where we were, facing another change………a change that we believed had to happen. That change of course was the name change from –Meridian- to Submergency.

As I said at the beginning.........At the basis of every action is an idea. The basis of Submergency is the desire to play music, the best music that we know how to make, and constantly relying on each other to push ourselves further……… Staying aware of where we started, realizing where we are, and always believing in where we can go. Remember, this is just the foundation.
