Biography

Subtle Hints is the musical expression of vocalist Sanna, guitarist Rob Bernas and guitarist / keyboardist Ed Mick. Their brand of pop / rock is a textured soundtrack of human emotion. The band follows a simple writing philosophy - one that is at the heart of all good pop music - Subtle Hints not only wants you to feel their music, they want you to sing along. Early 2009 brings the release of Subtle Hints’ self titled EP recorded with Grammy winner Andy Kravitz (Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Imogen Heap) who produced, engineered and played drums on the EP. Ed Mick’s keys create atmosphere to support the infectious musical hooks created by himself and Rob Bernas, as Sanna’s lyrics range from anthemic cries for hope and inspiration, to deeply personal admissions of the stark realities we face in daily life. “I wanted to write about things we can all relate to on a basic emotional level…our hopes, fears, triumphs, defeats and most importantly the perseverance of the human spirit”, says the singer. Along side the EP, the band will premier their first music video, the lilting “Carry On & Fade Away”. The video, directed by documentary filmmaker Francesco D. Muto, is part performance footage and part short story following the lovelorn lyrics of it’s accompanying track. Sanna, Rob Bernas and Ed Mick began this musical journey together in 2006 as part of the band Tabloid Society. They recorded their “Insatiable” EP with acclaimed local producer Brian McTear and played the Philadelphia area’s A Rooms including: the Trocadero Theater, The Khyber and the Northstar. Line up changes lead to a brief hiatus, but the trio re-emerged in 2008 with a more defined sound and a new name, Subtle Hints. Over the past year, in between recording sessions, the band has played the Dewey Beach Music Conference and performed live on Radio Volta. “Here’s a subtle hint,” remarks producer Andy Kravitz. “What has three pieces and sounds like a million bucks?” Subtle Hints has a fresh sound based on the foundation of solid pop songwriting. Subtle Hints is ready to undeniably engage the music industry.

Never Coming Back To You

Written By: Subtle Hints

I don't want you to change for me
It breaks my heart to see you bleed
Maybe space is what you need
To set you free
When I let you go
Will you find
everything you've wished for?
In my heart, I'll hold you close
But I'm never coming back
I'm never coming back to you
Can't help but feel a bit unsure
As I pack my bags and close the door
But we fight
And we lie
And we cry
And in
the end it's still not right
We put our hands in the fire
But now we're worn
out and tired
I'm never coming back to you

Believe

Written By: Subtle Hints

On the path that you must take
Fighting hard to find your way
Bang your head
on the wall
But you've come so far
And you're getting closer
Believe it
Believe it
Just sing along with a heartfelt song
You'll never feel alone
All your questions and self doubt
Created your own black cloud
It's your time to break through
It's in the heart of you
Now can you feel it?

Carry On & Fade Away

Written By: Subtle Hints

I saw you on the street
You called out my name
We stopped off for drinks and yes
It still felt the same
You asked how I've been
I said alright
That it's been a crazy year
And isn't it grand
That we're still friends
That we didn't fade away?
Carry on
Fade Away
Carry on
And fade away
Don't walk me home
I think I'll just take a cab
I make an excuse
The rain is driving me mad
I wanted so much to have your love
But you turned and ran away
And still we pretend
But we're not friends
Goodbyes are such a bitch

In A Flash

Written By: Subtle Hints

Everything you want
Is there if you see it
The hardest part is
Getting to believe it
Sometimes you're knocked down
Left disillusioned
Lost in the memory
Of better times
In a flash your whole world can change
In a flash your whole world can change
I was so low that
I lost the big picture
Spent so much time wondering
What I was missing
I took a step back
And it hit me
the power lies in your own state of mind
In a flash your whole world can
change
In a flash your whole world can change
You've got to move along
And learn how to be strong
In a flash your whole world can change
It's getting better
It's getting better
It's getting better everyday
Just give it some time
Open your eyes

Holding Onto Hope

Written By: Subtle Hints

Don't want to be alone
You cling to me through the telephone
If I could hold your hand
I'd pack my things
But you know I can't
You're on, you're on, your own
You can't look back
I'm holding onto hope
That you won't crash
Guess this is why they say
Life is the choices you make
I've told you with my tears
Your only enemy is fear
You hid the crash and burn
I called you out
You turned to run
Now can you hear me
Holding onto hope
Holding onto hope
Holding onto hope
In love with the escape
But you could only mask the pain
Be safe and get well soon
So you can come home
I miss you
