Today, the boys of Port Coquitlam, B.C. ask a philosophical question: “What is Subtle Like a T-Rex?” We made a list. Sturgis. Six dozen roses. 300 watt subwoofers. Michael Bay movies. Our number one? A jigsaw mix of tropicalia, funk, garage-rock memories, motorik riffs, and stoner jams, with a little bit of ukulele.
Subtle Like a T-Rex exists in juxtapositions. They create huge, heavy sounds, arranged and disposed of like muslin. Darkly intense moments brighten in a headbang, while jagged riffs tumble down jazzy hills. They’re an instrumental band, but it feels like they have a lot to say.
Subtle Like a T-Rex take to EMP|SFM’s stage this Saturday in the final round of semi-finals for this year’s Sound! Off competition. They’ll compete against SEACATS, Us On Roofs, and Great Waves, for a chance at the finals.
Should they win, they’ll face Candysound and Hooves and Beak, winners of semifinals 1 and 2 respectively, and a wildcard yet to be picked. - Seattlest Blog
Few of their songs clock in under six minutes. They aren't content using just guitar, bass, and drums. They have a lot of hair. This is one quartet that draws from such a diverse array of influences that even they themselves find it difficult to describe. But one thing is certain: Their sonic talent and cross-genre switchbacks are not to be ignored. - Seattle Weekly

Bio
What is Subtle Like a T-rex? It is a Machine. Forged deep within the abyss that is Kevin’s basement it knows no fear, feels no pain and craves only the finest silk. Its design and construction are flawless. Two legs (Kevin/Jose), two arms (Tim/Mike) and a body crafted from an unbreakable plasma/funk alloy.
We are a band that plays everything we want to play and our songs usually end up being combinations of many different genres. A lot of our songs (or more accurately segments of songs) are heavily influenced by jazz, funk, metal, hip-hop, folk, classical, latin, rock and dozens of other genres.
