Bio

Sue Foley is considered to be one of the finest blues/roots artists working today. At 16 she embarked on her professional career as bandleader, lead guitar player and vocalist. Over the last twenty years she has made her mark as a notable songwriter, producer and prolific recording artist. She has shared the stage and opened up for BB King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, George Thorogood, Calrence"Gatemouth" Brown, Tom Petty, Joe Cocker, Earl King and Jimmy Rogers to name a few. She has collaborated and recorded with Rufus Thomas, Bill Doggett, Lazy Lester, Snooky Prior, Pinetop Perkins, Joe Ely, Chuck Rainey, Lucinda Williams, Candye Kane, Will Calhoun, Peter Karp, Lester Bowie as well as fellow Canadians, Big Dave McLean, Steve Marriner, Tony D and Terry Gillespie. In 2000 she was honored in her home country with her first Juno Award (Canadian equivalent to the Grammy) for Best Blues Album for her CD "Love Comin’ Down." Since 1999 she has received a record setting eighteen Maple Blues Awards and three Trophee De Blues in France. Sue was also nominated for a prestigious W.C. Handy Award for best contemporary female artist in 2002. 2007 marked the released her eleventh CD, Time Bomb, a collaboration with fellow Canadian Roxanne Potvin and American blues guitar heroine Deborah Coleman. There are 11 CD’s in the Sue Foley catalogue; five from legendary Austin based blues label Antone’s, three on New York independent Shanachie and the three on Ruf Records, from Germany and Justin Time, in Canada. In the spring of 2006, the live DVD "Sue Foley, Live in Europe" was released on Ruf Records. When not touring or raising her son, Sue is busy pursuing artistic and financial independence. She started her own company, Guitar Woman Inc. and has plans to start her own record label. Her most passionate project to date is her "Guitar Woman" book. . Since 2001 Sue has been writing and conducting interviews with the the worlds finest female guitar players including such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Nancy Wilson, Rory Block and Sharon Isbin.
