"Sueisfine Cd release Party--an overwhelming success"

"There must have been 350 people there."
Call em' math rock, call em' space rock, call em' good old indie rock; there are no defined boundaries to Sueisfine. Sueisfine has definitely been creating a buzz in the local music scene. With the recently released self-tilted album Sueisfine, the band members Len Wallice - keyboards, Chris Roy - percussion & vocals, Ray Smith - drums, Todd Williamson - guitar & vocals, Craig Delin - bass & vocals and darren Foley on guitar & vocals sure have something to be proud of. At the recent CD release party, an easy 350 fans packed Kilroy's on Cumberland St. to support the band.

The band has also received massive feedback from campus radio station 102.7 CILU radio with repeated showings of top 30, even dabbling in and around the number one spot for the past month.

This album can not be repected for just one or two songs, there is no disjointed feel in their work, it seems like more of an epic piece. It flows easily from one song into the next.

Song one 'Kubark' is progressively building, from delicate and smooth to a final intense climax with heavier percussion, a great choice for an intro song.

Sueisfine then breaks into song two tilted 'Cheer America' with distorted vocals - a high energy - big band feel, lacking all softness here, it's upbeat speed rock.

Then they take you somewhere else, song three tilted 'Cubicles and Ties' is a techy- math'ish wonder - a personal favourite. I felt a lot of jazz and math-core influence from this album. I would love to name out some of the bands that must have influenced these artists, yet they display a wonderful sense of originality, so i will keep my mouth closed and let you venture into Sueisfine.

They dabble in many genres, something that so many bands are terrified to do. They're tight, they're emotional, they're intense. They are ambient and melodious indeed, yet also heavy and powerful at other times.

Perhaps this is the reason they have been getting repeated radio play, and the turnout at their show was so overwhelming. While talking with Darren Foley, he mentioned that they have submitted their application to Canadian Music Week (Toronto March 1-4, 2006), and have also put in their application to NXNE in Toronto (June 8-11, 2006).

As it currently stands, the band is independent. Their album was recorded from June of 2004 to May 2005 by Luke Gladu at Tumbler Media, here in Thunder Bay. The album was then sent to Toronto where it was mastered by Noah Mintz at Lacquer Channel. "'HEAD MUSIC' HITS THUNDER BAY"

After five years as a fixture in the Thunder bay music scene, ambient rockers Sueisfine are releasing their 3rd CD which was an 11 month project! Lead singer Darren Foley say's it's worth the wait.
"We're not in any particular rush to release albums, " he says."We certainly like to take the time to make the right album."

The right album in this case, was a nine-song self tilted disc that treads the line between dark and mellow. Foley's dramatic vocals and guitar are backed up by Craig Delin on bass, Todd Williamson on vocals and guitar, Len Wallice on keyboards, ray Smith on drums and Chris Roy on percussion.

An album they recorded two years ago was shelved, because the band members weren't thrilled with the final result. When they won recording time in last year's local Battle of the Band's contest, they figured the time was right to try again.

"We've progressed as writer's since then," Foley says.
The album was recorded by Luke Gladu at his Tumbler Media studio in Thunder Bay, and mastered by Noah Mintz, who also works with bands like Broken Social Scene.

"He does a good job," Foley says. "When you send off the CD for mastering, you don't worry as much about what the outcome will be, because you know he does good work."

From here, Sueisfine hope to shop the album around to Canadian indie labels, and they're hoping to go on tour in the near future.

"We're going to see how it goes, and have some fun with it," Foley says. To launch the album and a new website at www.sueisfine.ca, they're playing a show Saturday night at Kilroy's. The Wayback, Hair Straight Back, Only Forward and Noriah open the show.

"'SONIC ACHIEVEMENT' for Thunder Bay band"

Thunder Bay's Sueisfine latest self-tilted independent release is a sonic achievement. This six piece outfit consists of Len Wallis (keyboards), Chris Roy (percussion/vocals), Ray Smith (drums), Todd Williamson (guitar/vocals), Craig Delin (bass/vocals), and Darren Foley (guitar/vocals). The core of the group got together in 2000 and has two other discs to their credit. On this offering, Sueisfine explore the possibilities of sound ranging from dream pop to space rock. They may admit to a host of influences including Mogwai, Pink Floyd, My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr., but these are mere touchstones as Sueisfine is very much their own band. Choice tracks are Cheer America, Bruford and Melbay, that each showcases the groups dynamics. The quality of this recording is outstanding with production work handled by Luke Gladu. Right now this disc is in my CD changer between the new Broken Social Scene and The Deadly Snakes, two other outstanding Canadian acts. Badger your preferred music retailer for this. It's also available through the band's website www.sueisfine.ca. - Brent Linton - Entertainment Column - The Chronicle Journal www.chroniclejournal.com

"Sueisfine dominating rock scene"

While they may not be breaking into the national or international music scene just yet, the hometown boys of Sueisfine said they were happy with what’s been going on.

After winning the Apollo’s Battle of the Bands last year, the group got recording time at Tumbler Media, a Thunder Bay studio, and slowly but surely prepared their latest self-titled album released in October. This disc, their third, has launched the band onto a new level.

“Last month was really successful for us,” said vocalist/percussionist Chris Roy. “We sent out our CD (Sueisfine 2005) to all the community and campus radio stations across Canada and ended up ranking 80 out of 200 on the Earshot Chart in November. We were the highest ranking independent band for the month.”

Not to mention the huge local following the guys have earned. The band has been in the top 30 on LU Radio’s chart for months, and hovering around number one for three weeks.

“The support that we’ve got locally is crazy,” said Roy.
aGuitarist/vocalist Darren Foley said although being a band in Thunder Bay can be tough, things are starting to happen for them and other local bands..
“People are starting to realize that there’s good music to be had in this city,” he said. “There’s a lot of fantastic bands coming out of the garages and basements. People aren’t afraid to create their own sound.”

And creating their own sound is what Sueisfine thrives on. It’s a difficult to pin down blend of ambient vocals and guitar, crashing drums, melodious bass and pop keyboard all strung together in a neat little story of songs layered with distortion and dreamlike sound effects.

“I’m actually really glad people have a hard time classifying it,” said Roy. “It’s a good sign that you’re doing something different and original.”

He went on to say that fortunately they are hitting the scene at a great time.
“Canada has that reputation right now for quality entertainment with integrity still intact,” he said. “Bands like Arcade Fire are playing sold out shows (overseas) and they’ve done it without the breakthrough into commercial radio.”

Bassist Craig Delin agreed. “Certainly in Canada the whole industry is blowing up right now. Indie bands are getting worldwide attention.”
Foley added that because of this trend, it’s a good time for them to start hooking up with a label, which they hope to do in the near future.

“There seems to be a good support system for that. It’s a good time to be a Canadian band,” he said. “There are certainly enough smaller companies out there ready and willing to represent you and put a lot of energy into your project.”

Although the six-man band, which also includes drummer Ray Smith, guitarist Todd Williamson, and Len Wallis on keyboards, could be a hotbed for clashing artistic minds, the guys said they were like a big family.

“It was really different at first, it does take some adjusting playing with that many people. You have to sort of accommodate,” said Delin. “But what’s cool is that you’d think with six guys, there would be a lot of ego, but there’s not at all. We always support each other.”

Sueisfine has a couple of shows coming up, playing at the Wayback Helliday Bash at the Apollo Dec. 27 (tickets $5), and an all-ages show at Kilroys Dec. 30 (tickets $5), a make-up show for the unfortunate mix-up at their last one.

“Personally, I love playing the all-ages shows,” said Roy. “They’re ridiculous. The enthusiasm is crazy.”

“When you’ve got kids coming there, they’re coming there to rock out, they want to have fun, they want to see a band because they’re music fans. It’s awesome,” said Foley.
