Bio
EARLY LIFE
Suela’s story is one conjured almost from pure fiction. Her family, forced apart, were pushed out of Tirana in 1982 following the victimization of her grandfather by the Albanian government, inevitably leading to his death. Suela and her father were then banished to the small village of Mican on the southeastern outskirts of the country, near Greece. However, having already shown such immense passion for music from the age of five, she quickly found mentoring with a local choir conductor, Nik Milo, who taught her the courage to carry on.
MOVING TO CANADA: THE BEGINNING OF SUELA’S MUSICAL CAREER
In 1996, speaking some English and no French, Suela immigrated to Canada under refugee status to pursue her career free from prosecution.
Communicating only through music, she persevered, performing regularly at Greek bouzouki clubs to earn a living. She continued her studies at McGill University in Business Administration to better understand the business world of the music industry, all the while continuing to perform at live events and record new material.
In 2002, with overwhelming encouragement, Suela competed, and placed 15th, in renowned music competition, Canadian Idol. This success turned her musical ambition into an unfaltering force.
In 2005, on New Years eve, the entire nation watched as news reports of a massive thirty-five car pileup on highway 401 spread across the airways. It was during the recovery from this incident when she discovered an inspiration like never before. She began writing new material at a furious pace, meeting with industry professionals, taking requests from D.J.’s wanting to remix her songs.
She now performs regularly around Montreal and is enjoying the great success of her highly anticipated debut album, Truly Yours.
