Bio

Sukie Conley was raised in "the region" of Indiana. Always a writer, in the summer of 2008 she picked up a friend's guitar and began playing, exploring the ranges of her voice, and putting her words to music. Later, she decided it was time to take her music outside the confines of her living room couch and let others in on the fun. Sukie’s work seeks a sound that is constantly revelatory and at the same time familiar and real. The result is a growing body of relentlessly original songs. To listen to her songs is to walk around inside of them and come out feeling at home and refreshed. Strong, beautiful, clear, coy, and curious vocals paired with her confident approach to the guitar is what sets her pieces apart. She released her first EP, Part I: Home in December of 2011.

Sukie met Caleb Hawkins met at Lazy Daze Coffee House in Indianapolis, IN while participating in an open mic night. Caleb, a fifth generation musician, spent the days of his youth picking at stringed instruments and working as a blacksmith in various historical societies. Early on, a terrible accident left him unable to perform his duties as a blacksmith, so he traded in his iron for wood and wire and hasn’t looked back since.

In the spring of 2012, Sukie and Caleb were both living and playing in Indianapolis, diligently cultivating their respective crafts. After hearing each other perform, they decided to meet up to see if their sounds worked well together. It only took one afternoon in Garfield Park to realize the music they were making not only worked well, but greatly enhanced their individual efforts.

“[Sukie] We started playing a couple of my solo tunes. Within 10 minutes of one song I remember thinking, "That’s how I always wanted it to sound!” And so the musical collaboration began with Sukie primarily on rhythm guitar and lead vocals while Caleb provides backing vocals and plays dobro, mandolin, pedal steel, banjo, and electric and acoustic guitar. Fueled by good vibrations and the shared interest in making a lot of good music, they can now be seen performing throughout the Midwest and are set to release their first full length album together, Out of Place, in early 2013.
