The Sumerian Kyngs are an 8 piece unit based mainly in Brighton. Starting out as an improv music/ beat poetry group circa 2004. 'Many changes in personnel meantime, with some early members still remaining, during which time the Kyngs have evolved into a tight and original outfit, but still with freedom to improvise within their songs.
All are experienced musicians, including - multi instrumentalist, all round virtuoso and keyboard player for 'The Damned' Monty Oxymoron - Richard Lanchester ex 'Here and Now' and currently in 'Whimwise' - Tony Green ex cult punk band 'The Unbelievables' - Andy Bayton Power and Steve Cartwright from 80's Berlin group 'Red Snappers' + Many, Many more!
Music influences include, but in no particular order - Captain Beefheart, Frank Zappa, Love, Kraftwerk, Gong, punk music, John Coltrane, jazz, improv, Bonzo Dog Band! +++
So many influences, but all material has to pass the- "is it 'Kyngsian' test"- harking back to the groups original freedom and beat poetry ethos - So our music must never be normal and boring!
