Hailing from the enchanting Kootenays, in British Columbia, Canada, Summer Abney blends an innovative mastery of classic songwriting with a psychedelic sensibility and a starkly compelling lyric to create a brand new "classic" genre: Acid Country. Her music offers echoes of the heaviness and rawness of Neil Young, the sonic trippiness of Pink Floyd, and hints of the evocative mysticism of Nick Drake, though through her unique talents as both songsmith and deft translater of experience she creates a uniquely powerful music that easily stands on its own.
A songwriter from the age of 15, Summer has played on stages across Canada and into the US, and garnered varied music industry interest, including working with Steven Drake (formerly of the Odds) and Juno award winner Frankie Wilmot.
2006 has seen her finalling in three songwriting competitions so far - most notably the prestigious Calgary Folk Festival/Ship and Anchor Songwriting Contest - and her musical journeys have included a number of cd compilations, incuding the Acoustic Artists Niagara Songwriters Series (produced by epic brother and sister folk duo David and Darlene Romano).
Summer is currently living and performing in and around Calgary and is poised to record her first full-length album.
