Sun Jr.

Formed in early 2014, strong friendships and related music projects brought the members of Sun Jr. together. Sun Jr. creates primarily original soul infused rock, that is offset by the melodic influence of banjo and pedal steel guitar.  The result is a unique sound that leverages many styles of music to create strongly melodic rock that drives and soothes at the same time.

Strongly influenced by Garage Rock, Soul, and Americina the band got together in a basement and quickly fused into a blend of styles focused on strong lyrics and melody. Almost immediately songs came together driven by the songwriting and vocals of Jim Heekin and Matt Kubis.   The melodies are all pulled together and pushed forward by the drive of a strong rhythm section led by Nod Norkus and Jeramiah Streets.  In early 2015, Jon Schimek was added on the steel guitar to thicken the soup.

After regularly playing art openings, parties, and bars, the band got a huge opportunity to play at 2015 Mumford and Sons' Gentlemen of the Road stopover Tour in Salida, CO (thanks to the wonderful support of Madison House!!).  After delivering a strong set that resulted selling out T-shirts and Posters, the audience made it quite apparent that we need to get the music through a studio....
