"The Georgia Straight | EP Review - Sundays "Of Eros And I""

Of Eros and I (Independent)

Sundays’ brand of honeyed, minimalist R&B is made for the bedroom, though not necessarily for doing the bump and grind. Of Eros and I, the local singer’s debut EP, is postcoital pop—songs about the memories and emotional aftermath of a steamy Saturday night.

That said, opener “World We Own” is the pleasure-seeking precursor to the rest of the six-song set’s pensive approach, balancing a modest bass pulse and gale-force synth whooshes with Sundays’ breathy vocals about existing in a sensual limbo with her lover.

“Forces” is the early a.m. comedown that sets the tone for the rest of the EP. In it, gently panned guitars support Sundays’ Sade-styled softness, as she weighs in about how her heart opens up at the thought of a certain someone’s touch. EP highlight “Delicate” likewise runs smooth, though via simple, silken synth patterns. The two-note melody that drives the glacially paced, melancholy “Hope It’s Enough”, however, drags the collection down with its heavy-hearted sentiments. (“Someone tried to save you, I’ll leave that up to God/All I can do is love you with everything I’ve got.”)

Though no less spaciously arranged, “Things You Do” punches up the back end as Sundays once again speaks of her personal Eros, fondly recalling all the things about him that make her feel like hopping onto an Egyptian-cotton bedspread. While it risks veering off into dour territory mid-course, Of Eros and I is mostly a high-thread-count affair. - The Georgia Straight

"The Line of Best Fit | EP Review - Sundays "Of Eros and I""

Sundays is a tease. Log on to her social media profiles and you’ll be inundated with arty Instagrams that obscure her face, or life mottos and pictures of her breakfast. Much like her atmospheric electrosoul, the Vancouver artist is constantly toying between mystery and openness, between the spooks of minimalism and the warmth of soul. And this teasing is best expressed through the sensual sounds of her debut EP, Of Eros And I.

With sultry vocals, hip-hop beats and ghostly synths, “World Of Our Own” could not be a more seductive opener. Sundays is a clever producer; she somehow manages to keep the stems of the track compartmentalised and yet completely together. When knuckle-crack beats drop and harmonies throb at the chorus, you can’t wait to hear the rest.

“Forces” carries over the deep hum of her vocal whilst acoustic guitars gleam in the background. Lyrics detail an immeasurable lust, ‘Forces beyond all of my control/I feel the tension slowly build/I don’t know what to make of it/I thought I could escape your touch’, whilst tribal rhythms rumble beneath. There’s exoticism and honesty running between the sheets, once again playing on the distant/intimate dichotomy.

Slow-motion tempos and thin electronic pulses can make for a disengaged moments on the record. The centre of the EP is littered with drowsy tracks (“Behind Her Every Purpose”, “Hope It’s Enough”) that smile at the consistency of Sundays’ gorgeous vocal but frown at the music’s tedium. Perhaps these unhurried songs are simply her style, but there’s not enough upbeat numbers to justify the further drop in pace.

Contentment closes the record on “Things You Do”, which hears Sundays at peace with her Eros. Vocal harmonies chase each other’s heels and makeshift beats thud with bright and cheerful synths. It shows the potential for future musical directions, more in line with bubblegum RnB.

Even if Of Eros and I is meant to be full of slow jams, some songs do lack an essential energy that leaves the stronger tracks noticeably so. There’s no doubt about Sundays’ raw talent though; here is a new artist playing freely with modern soul. It’s a welcome experiment. - The Line of Best Fit

"Exclaim! | Video Feature - Sundays "Delicate""

Vancouver's Sundays has unveiled a new bedroom-bound video clip for her suitably steamy electro-soul cut "Delicate."

The low-key track has her waxing over the confusing status of a relationship, pondering whether or not to let someone go that wasn't actually hers to start with. It's a tale as old as time, really. The Nancy Lee-directed video has Sundays sussing out her thoughts, rolling around in bed and pawing at sheer curtains, while the other part of the equation exhales cigarette smoke nearby.

"Delicate" comes from Sundays' free Of Eros and I EP, which you can download on her website. - Exclaim!

"Pretty Much Amazing | Song Feature - Sundays "Forces""

Mark our words – the Vancouver singer and producer Sundays is going to be big. Her slow-burning, bedroom-crafted, bass-heavy beats and Banks-meets-Lana del Rey vocals effortlessly breed a generally eerie, 3AM vibe that’s instantly compelling. Check out “Forces,” the lead single from her upcoming EP Of Eros and I – she sings about being drawn to someone by “forces beyond my control,” unsure of what’s happening or what to believe. Add her sultry voice to that woozy, percussion-punctuated beat and you can almost close your eyes and see out your window into the city night. Check it out. - Pretty Much Amazing

"Pete Hates Music | Song Feature - Sundays "Hope It's Enough""

Some people love Sundays because they are great lazy days. Other people hates Sundays because they are the day before Monday, the start of a typical work week. I’m hoping readers will like Sundays because she writes damn good subtle electro pop songs. We’ve featured Sundays and her track World We Own before. She’s back with a new song, Hope Its Enough (I won’t make a lame pun because my Sundays intro was poor enough).

The track features some ethereal vocals, immediately engaging you in the song. The music plays second fiddle to the vocals, which are front and centre. Check out the slow track and come make your ears happy. - Pete Hates Music

"Pete Hates Music | Video Feature - Sundays "World We Own""

I like lazy Sundays. However, since there is a good little musician called Sundays, I want her to be as productive as possible. No more lazy Sundays – for the musician, not for me. I’m never leaving my pajamas on a Sunday. Switching gears to something relevant, Sundays is an artist from Vancouver, who makes some electronic, soulful indie pop.

Sundays has a new track that she produced called World We Own. The track is from her forthcoming debut EP Of Eros and I, out in September. World We Own is a light and catchy indie pop track that is both subtle and pleasant. Check it out below. - Pete Hates Music

"The 5 To 9 Life | Song Feature - Sundays "Delicate""

'Delicate' explores obvious themes of heartbreak, but the female songstress sings it with such wistful passion that she is able to take you on a personal journey with her.

Just as the title reads, singer-songwriter Sundays’ voice on this song is purely ‘Delicate’.
Fragile. Vulnerable. Soft-spoken. Hypnotic.

Known as Sundays, the Canadian RnB artist is an emerging vocalist that makes sweet electronic soul music, and she’s created a song that I can’t stop listening to. Just right for the mood I’ve been in lately, to be honest.
‘Delicate’ explores obvious themes of heartbreak, but the female songstress sings it with such wistful passion that she is able to take you on a personal journey with her. Those simple finger snaps accompanying the melody in the background are so crisp and subtle, they bring the entire track together.
Sundays’ debut EP, appropriately titled “Of Eros and I”, will drop in September. - The 5 To 9 Life

"IndieShuffle | Song Feature - Sundays "Delicate""

What's so good?

Yes, it’s true. There’s another Canadian R&B artist emerging on the scene. She goes by Sundays, she’s from Vancouver, she makes sweet electronic soul music, and she’s just what we need this summer.

The way she sings sounds kaleidoscopic in nature — spirited yet subtle. This track recounts heartbreak, filled with wistful passion. Those crisp snaps echoing in the background will twist you inside out with sentimental longing.

Sundays’ debut EP, appropriately titled Of Eros and I, will drop in September. Until then, you can follow her on most social media channels, even Instagram. For more music, peep her SoundCloud. - IndieShuffle

"The Line Of Best Fit | Song Premiere - Sundays "Forces""

Canada’s pool of electronic talent shows no sign of drying up, and for every Purity Ring or Grimes exploding from bedroom to superstardom, there’s an a k u a or Black Atlass coming up on the rails.

Vancouver’s Sundays shares more in common with LA siren Banks than any of her aforementioned peers, feeding an exotic, sentimental warble through a maze of picked acoustics and white noise drenched beats on ‘Forces’, the first delicate and dreamy taster of her self-produced debut EP Of Eros and I.

The EP is out next month, but ‘Forces’ offers up enough cotton candy melodies to satisfy even the sweetest bedroom pop tooth til then. - The Line Of Best Fit

You can check out the track, which has the artist's love-laced lines supported by smooth synths and an echo-laden snap, down below.

So far this summer, we've already heard two new tracks from Vancouver-based recording artist Sundays' debut EP, Of Eros and I, in the form of smouldering electro-soul single "World We Own" and the low-key bedroom jam "Delicate". Now, the electronic singer-songwriter has unveiled one more track off her impending release with "Hope It's Enough".

Picking up where the other two left off, Sundays layers breathy vocals over an ambient landscape of cascading synthesizers, minimalist keyboard lines and echo-laden white noise, all while praying she can provide enough emotional stability for her lover.

Of Eros and I is set to drop sometime this September. Until then, listen to "Hope It's Enough" in the player below. - Exclaim!

"Beats Per Minute | Song Feature - Sundays "World We Own""

World We Own has something deep and alluring about it. A almost-brooding synth number that swells quietly, it brushes against power ballads from the aforementioned decades, but give it a modest relocation: hiding underneath the synths and lurking between the notes of the chorus.

"Exclaim! | Video Premiere - Sundays "World We Own""

Vancouver electro-soul singer Sundays recently unveiled the hushed, streamy debut single "World We Own." Now, that cut has got its own video.

The clip is every bit as shadowy and dark and the song itself. It preserves the singer's mysterious identity with lots of dramatic angles, disorienting projections and image layering. These are mixed with a few blue-tinted nature shots, and the video ends with Sundays descending into a lake.

Watch it for yourself below. - Exclaim!

"Blahblahblahscience | Song Feature - Sundays "Hope It's Enough""

Vancouver-based R&B golden hope (& new favorite of the site) Sundays delivers the intensely intimate and personal (and crazy good vocally) “Hope It’s Enough” from her forthcoming (self-produced!) Of Eros and I EP. When Sundays sings we listen; do not miss out on the genesis of a truly singular and phenomenally talented new artist. “Of Eros and I” is due in October.

"The Vault | Song Feature - Sundays "World We Own""

I’m not sure what it is about that Lana Del Ray-esq ‘live fast, love hard, die young’ tone that is so appealing to us “tortured youth”, but whatever it is, Sundays first single “World We Own” captures the beautiful morbidity with ease. The steady oscillating synth, subtle drum, and haunting vocals draw you in and make this more of an experience than just a song.

From the very little I can dig up about Sundays, I’ve learned 1. she’s a Vancouver-based experimental electronic/soul singer/songwriter and producer 2. her debut EP, Of Eros and I, is to be released later this summer …and that’s about it. Whether intentional or not, the mysterious air about Sundays adds all the more to her alluring style, and creates the feeling that you’ve just read a dramatic cliffhanger and are left anxiously waiting to see what happens.

I’ll be right there with you checking to see what’s next,

"Blahblahblahscience | Song Feature - Sundays "Delicate""

The gorgeousness that is Canadian artist Sundays new track for “Delicate” is not to be taken lightly. Do not take this beauty lightly. “Delicate” which Sundays also self-produced features among other very cool/strong qualities a vocal performance that while hushed and almost hypnotic in its simple easy repetition is among the most affecting set of melodies (and their execution) maybe of the year. This is the sort of music we want to play everyday at any hour. Sundays’ debut EP Of Eros and I is out in September.

Sundays – ‘Delicate’

Sundays is a Canadian ‘experimental soul/electronic, singer-songwriter’, and her new track ‘Delicate’ is as serene a slice of classy electro-soul as you’re likely to find this side of a James Blake album. Even more impressive is that she produces her music herself. Sundays’ debut EP ‘Of Eros and I’ is set for release next month, keep an eye on her site for more details.

"Consequence Of Sound | Top 10 MP3s of the Week (5/31)"

The only thing as resonant, entrancing, and powerful as the swirling electronic depths of “World We Own” is the voice that lingers over it, a smoky croon claiming ownership over heaven and earth. The first single from Vancouver’s Sundays is a mystic slice of electro-soul, sub-bass boom-clap and deep well atmospherics blending into a murky, watercolor landscape of a huge moon falling slowly to the earth. Information on Sundays is scant (heck, I’m having trouble coming up with much beyond the name), but we do know that ”World We Own” comes from the debut EP Of Eros and I, due sometime this summer. -Adam Kivel - Consequence of Sound
