Bio

Sunning is a five-piece emo/punk band from Long Island, NY, consisting of Kevin Sangalang (Drums), Sam Rodriguez (Vocals), Tyler Chau (Guitar/Vocals), Jason Jenkins (Bass), and Paul Gregory (Guitar). Blending elements of Midwestern emo with aspects of modern pop-punk/hardcore, they cite bands such as American Football, Defeater, Touché Amoré, and Saves The Day as influences. The band started in Summer of 2012, with Sam & Kevin (ex. Team Watson, Projections) contacting Tyler (ex. Forever My Love) about wanting to jam and play music together. The three instantly clicked, working on songs that Tyler had written earlier in the year. That summer was spent recording a 5-song demo in Kevin's garage, using a small Tascam 8-track recording interface Sam owned.

As the Summer came to a close, the band decided that it was something everyone was in for the long run, and wanted to take it as far as possible. Realizing that a full band would be needed to play the songs live to their full potential, Tyler asked Paul (who was also in Forever My Love), and Jason to come onboard, as the lead guitarist and bassist, respectively.

The band played their first show on October 14, 2012; a local 'Battle of the Bands' for a spot to open up for Transit & Such Gold the following week. Unfortunately, they were not chosen, but met their objective: just to give a show 102% and let the world know they exist. The show left a lasting impression in the local scene, with people claiming that they 'Were one of the most energetic bands they've ever seen live.'

The following week, the band headed into Matt Lagatutta's (Giants At Large) home studio in East Meadow, NY to begin recording their debut EP, "Lock & Key", which would be completed through multiple sessions over the course of the next month. The EP was released for free via Bandcamp on (insert date here), along with a small amount of cassettes, run by local label WarTapes.

The band has and continues to play local shows, playing with local & signed acts such as Heart To Heart, Giants At Large, Half Hearted Hero, Caleb Lionheart, Parkdale, Bellwether, The Tired and True, and more.

Their plans for 2013 are to play as many shows as possible, and also play dates up and down the east coast. They also plan to record another EP, which is already written, as well as release some independently recorded music, before planning on recording a full length. The band, as a whole, are growing & learning day by day, but have a clear grasp on all their goals, and are constantly working to achieve them.
