Bio
With a booming melodic voice, his hands uniquely speaking through his guitar strings, Sunny Wheat seems to channel many past spirits of music while making his own. He grew up in the countryside of North Carolina playing the guitar since he was 13 years old. Listening to musicians like Johnny Cash, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Marley, he found his own niche and rhythm which can be loosely described as an alternative swamp music fed with soul and grace. His soul is clearly where he sings from, when his 6’5’’ frame is hunched over his guitar, methodically picking the strings like they are pieces of percussion. If one closed their eyes as he performed they may see the long mountain grass and trees blowing in the wind along the Appalachian terrain. In another listen, an image appears of a dark cold night when the air bites fingers like a rabid dog, the heart-felt sound coming from all directions, even the earth beneath our feet. Wheat’s journey brought him through the Midwestern states and now to the West Coast where he continues to play reverent music from his heart.
