Suns Of Static is an alternative rock band from Kingston, Ontario. A sonic onslaught of powerful, captivating grooves with vocal melodies that both soar and punctuate the solid rock instrumentals, with lyrics that draw on imagery and metaphors inspired by wonders and terrors of our modern age.

Biography

In 1895 Wilhelm Roentgen accidentally discovered x-rays when his experiments reveals the shadows of the bones in his hand through the static.

Suns Of Static emerged in Kingston, Ontario in 2008 in a similar spirit of unexpected discovery. Introduced while jamming with a common friend, Bill Cassidy and Geoff Jarvis began writing music based on ideas pulled from rough demos, riffs and song scraps. In Bill's home studio, Starfish Prime Studios, they were able to begin crafting those ideas into polished demos. Over the course of several months getting together with other local musicians, including Travis Blackmore on drums, there was a spark that ignited the idea of taking this to the next level. The potential they heard in their (nascent) music was too great to ignore, and they set about finding a vocalist who they hoped would compliment the sound in a unique way. They wanted to stand out from the crowd of modern rock bands. Eventually, they found Sauvelm McClean, with knowledge of keyboards and some original music experience with his former afrobeat band, Living Planet, there was no telling how the styles would blend.

The resulting sound is a sonic onslaught of powerful, captivating grooves with vocal melodies that both soar and punctuate the solid rock instrumentals, with lyrics that draw on imagery and metaphors inspired by wonders and terrors of our modern age. The band has been busy writing, recording and preparing to release their debut CD, set to release in early 2010.

Seven Walls

Written By: Suns Of Static

seven walls could not stop the onslaught of his constant talk
but if we break these jars, we can drown him out
his talk is cheap sits in the face of real need he fills
their heads with stories to fill his needs

if I could drown him,
it would be within the well
of tears we shed
every tear, shed

weather changes now or ten years further down the road
we will see and feel every ember burn
his talk is cheap sits in the place of real peace he spills
their blood for fueling his corporate needs

if I could drown him
it would be within the well
of tears we shed
every tear, shed

could it be he’s still the enemy
could it be he’s still the enemy
could it be he’s still the enemy
could it be he’s still the enemy

still, still

seven walls could not stop the onslaught of his constant talk
but if we break these jars

One Final Word

Written By: Suns Of Static

Uncertainty is the new currency of love,
in a time of war
There’s no question of intention when they’re fighting
for what’s yours

‘cause its yours, yeah it’s yours, yeah it’s yours
It’s your future on the bottom line

With your holy book in hand why don’t you tell me who’s the man
After all you’ve done
I still remember all those lies that you fed to me before,
Now they’ve come undone

Why do you? Why do you,
Why do you break me down?

One final word to all the ones who say,
This is all a passing phase
History has a way of making fools of us all
Time to tear out this page

‘cause I’ve got to be here, but you’ve got to stay away
This is just a passing phase, yeah
‘cause I’ve got to be here, and you’ve got to stay away
It’s time to tear out this page, yeah

Don’t go by what you’re hearing, know what you’re fearing
Is said to make you numb
Don’t go by what you’re hearing, know what you’re feeling
Don’t let them steal your love

Don’t go by what you’re hearing, know what you’re fearing
Is said to make you numb
Don’t go by what you’re hearing, know what you’re feeling
Don’t let them steal your love

Q and A

Written By: Suns Of Static

who will you know when there's no place left to go
what will you say when they've all but gone away
where in your past have you ever seen the last
when is nature in your way, will we live another day

how will we ever find the answer?

baby close your eyes, tonight
rest your mind
just turn out the lights, in time
you'll see fine

who did you see in the mirror before me
what will you try, if it's written in the sky
drink down the wine 'til you feel it in your spine
will we savour our decay, will we throw it all away

how will we ever find the answer?

baby close your eyes, tonight
rest your mind
just turn out the lights, in time
you'll see why

baby close your eyes, tonight
rest your mind
just turn out the lights, in time
you'll see why

what will you say
who will you know
where will you be
will we throw it all away, will we live another day?
