Tenemos noticias de Sunsplash. Lo último que supimos fue que sacaron el single ‘Fiera de Vinil’ con sus diferentes remixes. También tuvimos pegado ‘A Brave New Me’ y ‘Hi Life’, que escuché y mezclé en fiestas con total orgullo, aunque no recuerdo de dónde las sacamos. Como sea, Sunsplash es posiblemente uno de los sonidos más geniales que ha salido de algún venezolano en el género de electrónica tropical.

Recientemente la pareja subió al souncloud una nueva versión de ‘Hi life’, que me informó el Alberto saldrá en un material más amplio. Aun no hay fecha, pero este trabajo tendrá también nuevas versiones de ‘Fiera De Vinil’, ‘A Brave New Me’ y varios tracks que no han salido jamás a la luz pública. Para el ex Todosantos el sonido es ahora mucho más maduro y limpio, “yo lo veo como un choque entre house, tropico y rima”. También nos dijo que su ex compañero Ernesto Pantin le está co-produciendo todo esto.

Este versión terminada de ‘Hi Life’ tiene mucho más de house que la versión anterior, y Clarissa Steed hace voces, mientras que en la anterior no. Me pareció que habían quitado estrofas, pero de seguro es que agregaron más del idioma portugués. Sin duda tiene más sonidos trabajados y quizás le han quitado un poco de color para hacerla más dura y rebelde. Este post es para olvidar por un momento a quienes se desviven por una escena que seguro algún día se podrá disfrutar en pleno. Recuerda que hay algo más que las fiestas que habrán este mes en los bares usuales de tu ciudad, hay algo más que los cocteles a los que muchos se mueren por ir un día de semana. Y he aquí un pequeño ejemplo kids!


La misma semana que se esta lanzando este proyecto en desde Brooklyn ustedes podrán disfrutarlo ¡Es Sunsplash! El embrión neoyorkino de Clarissa Steed (aka Supervixen) nacida en Sao Paulo y de Alberto Stangarone a quien conocemos algunos caraqueños por ser todo un santo. “El primer single es “Fiera de Vinil” y saldrá a la calle este verano en 7980% Records y en itunes junto a un par de remixes” dijo Alberto. Es música divertida y sin pretensiones y estoy seguro que los hará bailar como lo hicieron conmigo. Por cierto, nunca pude colocar aquí el download de la rola, no soy muy bueno para esto y lo saben. Remember Todosantos w/ their booty, bass bangin' hits a while ago? I played the song "OMG we got it" a lot @ Nacotheque parties and it got people crazy every time.
Needless to say I'm a fan of former Todosantos singer Alberto's new project SUNSPLASH!! The official release is finally out titled "Fiera De Vinil"

to the track. I think its time to create a new genre… i always gotta have a genre when i describe a piece of music.
For this track from Brazilian/Venezuelan born but Brooklyn residing duo Sunsplash I think i’m going to invent the term cosmic baille… or maybe even dream baille.

The party carnival flavour is still there but its just less manic, easier to grip onto without a face of blow. Enjoy and visit their myspace for even more fiesta fuelled finery..

I’ve been digging “Fiera de Vinil” by Sunsplash a lot lately, but mainly on my headphones and while at the gym in particular. I haven’t been able to mix it during my sets yet and I really can’t wait to do so because I know the crowd’s reaction will be positive. The thing is, I’ve been doing a lot of mellow loungy sets and this is a crazy upbeat peak-of-the-night banger with a contagious funky groove that can easily be blended in between electro-house and baile funk. Before discovering Sunsplash’s debut single, I had no idea who these people where but I was intrigued. I did some research and became an instant fan. Now I’m eagerly expecting more of this amazingly original dance music.

Apparently Sunsplash is a boy and a girl – Venezuelan and Brazilian, respectively (and yes, they sing partly in Español and partly in Portugese, or “portuñol“). If you are into Venezuelan underground electronic music, which I’m not, you might know the boy, Alberto Stangarone, from a previous project called Todosantos. The girl is named Clarissa Steed, but she goes by the alter-ego of Supervixen. Now, two of my favorite things in the world are Brazilian women and ’70s sexploitation movies, so I really hope her name is a reference to Russ Meyer’s best movie. She’d automatically climb positions in my constantly evolving indie-diva crush rotation, and begin competing with Bomba Estéreo’s Li Saumet.

Of all places, Alberto and Clarissa met in New York (of course), where this current project was born. They signed with the local label DJ’s Are Not Rock Stars and released this first single with a couple of remixes. My favorite has to be the one with all those samba whistles by Mexican DJ Spin Laden – it goes great with last year’s hit “Afro Nuts” by Yolanda Be Cool. Beleza! - remezcla chicago

When you hear “Fiera de Vinil” by co-ed duo Sunsplash, you can’t help but think you’re caught in a neon-colored world of beaches and bikinis, a mix of bailefunk and indie-electronica, purely cropped from South America with some Brooklyn soaked in for size. Sunsplash sounds wet. Whether ocean-wet or sweat-wet, you emerge from the song completely dripping.

The Venezuelan twosome are crafty in their creations. With “Fiera de Vinil” they’ve jam-packed a two-minute, 40-second song with an arsenal of elements: Portuguese, Spanish, dog barks, chants, synthesizers, ’90s-style techno pop, and the constant reminder of “splash, splash, splash, baby!” As soon as it ends you want more beach, more music, more Sunsplash. Pretty irresistible stuff.
