Supa

With the ever changing nature of the game, Supa has been one of the few artists to stand against the test of time in Nashville, TN. The title of an artist has never had so much depth as he tackles the day- to –day dealings of an abstract painter, fashion guru, and rapper.

John Ricardo Murray Jr. aka Supa was born to teen parents but both of his grandmothers took turns raising him while his birth parents continued with their goals. Being the only grandchild, young Supa would soon learn how to get what he wanted. One of the things he wanted was to be in the streets. A nuisance to the streets, both of his grandmothers’ patience was running short. He was soon hauled to Tennessee where his father and stepmother were sent for the military.

A military man, Mr. Murray pulled no punches when it came to his son. Supa had to earn everything he wanted and set goals for himself. “My father had me working for what I wanted. My toes were busting out of my shoes and he was not budging, but I was supposed to go through that, I learned a lot.” Throughout high school he started recognizing talents and interests and began considering his future.

One thing Supa would learn from his father was determination. By 1997, he found himself surrounded by DJ’s and producers. Already a freestyler and now parent of a baby girl, he knew that it was time to solidify some of the dreams he had set years before. After a visit to a friend’s house turned into a recording session, he knew that rap was the first venture to pursue. Supa made his way into the 1999 Hip Hop Summit and met the entrepreneurs of Ruff Nation. Next thing he knew, he was accepting an airline ticket to Philadelphia and was rubbing elbows with major and up and coming artists and producers.

“Moving with the waves,” the current of the game took him right back to Nashville where he linked up with a flourishing production/ management company, Bang Out Entertainment. He would release his first album Time Iz Up in 2006 under his alias Diablo, but soon parted ways with the company by winter of 2007.

Although he continued penning lyrics and making visits to studios, Supa fell back on his other interest; abstract painting and clothes designing. He launched his clothing line Pacaso 321 Originals, started C’morbuck$ Entertainment and began painting fulltime. A hustler at heart, he organized fashion and art shows to promote his talents and turn over a buck. Successful, Pacaso 321 Originals became highlighted on BET’s live broadcasted program 106 and Park. On “Wild out Wednesday’s,” he showcased his clothing line with a team of handpicked models. Although his team did not get picked for another round, he was not discouraged.

Ever determined, Supa released three mixed tapes, Supa ’07, Supavision and Supabad. Currently, he is preparing for the release of his Indie album, Supabad the Album and is working with another artist under Wandering Star Management, Diamond Micole.
