Bio

A LOT HAS CHANGED since then London-based Supergloo’s first lo-fi demo grabbed the attention of (Black Grape producer and bass player) Danny Saber in 2011. For the most part, Rob Andrew’s approach to song writing has not, though the sounds emerging from the band have multiplied, as have the number of people anticipating the results.

The band’s unmistakable, hypnotic formula was solidified on their debut album, Living Stereo, co-produced by Danny Saber and Adam Mosely (Beck, Garbage) at The Dust Brothers’ studio in LAThe album—which enjoyed time on US college radio indie charts—was critically heralded and spurred a modest but loyal following.

After moving the band from the UK to Nashville and finally to Boise, Supergloo now sounds like the work of a singer songwriter who’s clearly on top of his game and having a ball doing it, in a band that has emerged from the confines of working project style – as Andrew and producers Saber and Mosely did for much of the Living Stereo album – into an exhilarating new territory.

On the upcoming 2016 release, Astronaut, Supergloo displays a chemistry that stands out from the get go. Andrew’s vocals and delivery on guitar clearly benefit from the new closeness and intuitive sense of rhythm and purpose happening between the rest of the band—bass player Scot Alexander (Dishwalla), drummer John Brenner, and multi-talented keyboard player Steve Fulton.

Bolstered by occasionally heady lyrical introspection, this is musically the most playful, bold and passionate statement from Supergloo to date. Like on Living Stereo, but even more so here, the band has opted for takes where their bold imperfections underscore the albums brightest moments every time.

Where Andrew’s vocals were often hidden beneath layers of carefully constructed rhythm and fuzz guitar hooks on the first album, on Astronaut Andrew’s voice is now front and center, with no question of its intent.

Andrew has been sketching out the plan for Supergloo in planes, cars, hotels and cafes since long before the completion of Living Stereo, and with Alexander, Brenner and Fulton on board, the band has raised the bar for their own self-described hook n’ roll. Noise making minstrels they may be, but what a special noise that is.
