Supernova Syndicate

It was all down hill from here. What started as a two-man party between Jonathan Montoya and Scotty Austin quickly escalated into a serious musical endeavor that they never expected. Unsatisfied with their current projects, they unwittingly set out on a different path clearing out the debris and brush as they went. Sometimes it was accidental, sometimes genius, but it was always Rock!

Montoya just coming out of former Island Records act “Full Devil Jacket”, was looking for something a little different. While in Full Devil Jacket, Montoya gained popularity performing headlining tours, as well as with such acts as Coal Chamber, Type O Negative, Bush, Filter,
Megadeth,Creed,CollectiveSoul,and at Woodstock 1999. Full Devil Jacket’s music was also featured on soundtracks Scream 3, Gravity Games, and Heavy Metal 2000. While searching for his next Rock & Roll adventure, his friends and former Tennessee label mates Saliva tapped him to tour with them while one of their members fell ill. That tour was just the right fuel and the fire he needed to lead to his re-introduction to music.

While being a fan of local Tennessee musician Scotty Austin’s guitar playing, Montoya didn’t know that their songwriting would take the road less traveled. Coming around and finding his own lyrical style, somewhere in the middle of sick and twisted with a little truth and personal experience on the side, he knew the season was right for a shit-eating grin. Lead guitar
player and songwriting partner Austin (the music equivalent of Tequila) is a highly schooled veteran of the long nights and even longer days. Knowing when, where, and how to play are true gifts and he has them. Like Austin says “One thing you know is it’s going to be heartfelt.”

The rhythm section of Bryan Assata and Chris Rock brings to mind the term “Power House”. The band recording without a bass player, pulled Rock (a graduate of Berklee School of Music) away from his engineering duties to take the helm. Sure enough not only did they now have an engineer but they also had a fulltime bass player. Rock then contacted long time friend, Bryan Assata, to complete the Syndicate.Bryan, playing from St. Louis to Los Angeles, bringing a stick trick performance, finished the lineup. He had just finished an album in the studio with Malcolm Springer, and stepped right into the “nightmare” of his career.This rhythm section comes together to form the perfect pulse.

While keeping their ear to the proverbial pavement and reaching back to classic rock and everywhere in between, neither hard nor soft, but at the same time both!
