Bio
Since the band started out in 1997 they have fulfilled most of a Swedish Balkan brass band´s dreams. They have been touring in Macedonia and Serbia, played at the famous Guca festival and with the brass bands of Sutka, the Roma suburb of Skopje, toured with Ferus Mustafov and played at most scenes in Sweden: Konserthuset, Södra Teatern, Fasching, Nefertiti, Jeriko...
They have also done some things they could never have dreamt of, like playing in Swedish national televison with the dance band Thorleifs and leading probably the largest Balkan band in the world consisting of 500 young musicians.
On their new record there are traces of a lot of recent projects. King Ferus Mustafov, one of the great masters of Roma music is featured on five tracks and Thorleif Torstensson has record an exclusive Balkan version of his greatest hit ¨Gråt Inga Tårar¨ that everyone should hear. Abba's ¨Voulez Vous¨ has filled many dance floors since the band started playing it a couple of years ago. On the record that tune and several others has been recorded with two drummers to increase the intensity and on some other tracks the master drummer Hakan Vreskala has laid out a rich texture of Turkish rhythms.
On ¨Balkanized¨ Süperstar Orkestar wants present a variety of styles from the Balkans and some from Sweden, always with that rough energy and swing that is typical for the Roma brass bands that have inspired them and driven them to keep developing musically through the years.
Enjoy
