Lyrics

Glass Hotels

Written By: Barry Gereb

She measures out the city like a prisoner in a cell, heel to toe.
Footsteps fall like misting rain, winding towards an open drain, far below.

Room keys pass from palm to palm, in plastic sleeves, all day long, it’s never closed.
The promise of a painless suite, where daylight ends and needles meet, skin and bone.

Aren’t you surprised that you survived long enough to have a tale to tell?
(The close calls always made you feel alive…)
Aren’t you surprised that you survived, checking into glass hotels, and making time to kill?

Hooded comfort for despair, worn and spidered ends of rope, wet and salty in her mouth,
that she tugs on unaware.

She measures the city like a prisoner in a cell, heel to toe.
The solitary lamp on the street, casts a light that she won’t see, with eyes drawn closed.

Aren’t you surprised that you survived long enough to have a tale to tell?
(The close calls always made you feel alive…)
Aren’t you surprised that you survived, checking into glass hotels, and making time to kill?

Look What I've Done

Written By: Barry Gereb

Broken beauties dust the pages of your letters, I've got your black heart in a box on a shelf
Butterflies become knives, eviscerate and comfort me, I want to bleed out by myself

Ruby beads get tangled up in scarlet threads of what i recollect, and choose to forget.
Dusty relics I've forgot, fade into a grainy epitaph, like silver bands of photographs

look what i've done

Hindsight never heals a thing, it's just a waste of time
(Wasting time again)
Thinking 'bout what might have been, is just a waste of tears
(my wasted friends)
And I'm all broke beyond repair so I won't waste your time or mine

Look what I've done

Broken beauties dust the pages of your letters, I've got your black heart in a box on a shelf
Butterflies become knives, eviscerate and comfort me, I want to bleed out by myself

Stones Throw

Written By: Barry Gereb

Don’t reach out now, it smacks of drunken second thoughts…

And don’t call me out, for all the dark things that you’ve done.

‘Cause when you’re all alone, you never think it might have been your fault.

So keep throwing stones, until they mass into a mountain made of all the things we used to know

(you’re only a stone’s throw)
You’re only a stone’s throw away, I’d pitch a pebble at your window if there weren’t a mountain in the way.
(you’re only a stone’s throw)
You’re only a stone’s throw away, I’d pitch a pebble at your window if there weren’t a mountain in the way.

and I’ll stand before you, like I’m standin’ before you…bleed before you…fail before you.

But we’re wastin’ time, cause we’re both fightin’ it.

And I’m a waste of time, I decided it.

So I think that I’ll remember the nice things,

As we turn our backs and exchange a heartfelt knifing.

It was all for not, I promised I forgot, that I was not for it at all.

(was only a stone’s throw)
I was only a stone’s throw away, from makin’ pebbles outta mountains that were in my way.

(was only a stone’s throw)
Was only a stone’s throw away, from makin’ pebbles outta mountains that were in my way.

And I stood before you, really stood before you…bled before you

Need

Written By: Barry Gereb

(In the gray-blue morning light)
Awaken to the things you trust, things that make your veins rust...

and hold you back from what you want, and keep you down from what you need.
They hold you back from what you want, and keep you down from what you need.

(The weakness is the fear you feel)
Makes you believe it when you say, everything’s not going to be okay.

it holds you back from what you want, and keeps you down from what you need.
it holds you back from what you want, and keeps you down from what you need.

(The need for truth)
It’s all a lie, it's on borrowed time…
(The need for love)
Everything gets left behind…

Like leaves we fall in endless waves, shedding time and wasting days,
Until we fix in rotting coils and slowly turn to soil.

Half a Mind

Written By: Barry Gereb

I’ve got half a mind to fall in love with you, I’m going to listen before I speak.

I’m going to love you when we fight, I’m going to lift you when you’re weak,

But I’ve got half a mind, got half a mind, got half.

I’m going to write a song for you, I’m going to share it with no one else.

I’ll sing it softly in your ear, In time you’ll sing it to yourself.

But I’ve got half a mind, I've got half a mind...

The Boys in your Head

Written By: Barry Gereb

The sheets are all on your side, you barely slept through the night,

kicking the boys in your head, and the one in your bed.

While you were fighting and dreaming, the horses were screaming, and shaking the ground.

You began waking to hoof beats and quaking through bedsprings and down.

I touched your cheek to say, “We can start all over today”.

‘Cause I can change on a dime, and understand you in every way.

But then I changed my mind, because I knew that you might say.

Let’s not start all over ok?

You’re putting it all on me, that’s not the way it should be.
(What makes you so sure?)

He’s seein’ it all your way while I’m lyin’ here awake.
(your motive’s not so pure.)

It’s four in the morning, I’ve had about all I can take…for today.

the boys in your Head
(would let you sleep if you could decide)

The boys in your bed
(keep you happy so it must be alright)

The boys that have fled
(call ‘em up remind ‘em why)

The boys you won’t wed
(you don’t believe in the beautiful lie)

The Emma Hounding
2012

Sure firefly's debut album is an indie-rock songbook about the arc of love and a relationship, from first kiss to fiery disintegration. Unrehearsed and spontaneous found-recordings from the lovers' songwriting sessions (a duo known as "Buckshot and Laserbeam") link the tale of their time together, sharing a tiny pioneer's cabin in a little mountain town called Emma. Sure firefly draws from genres as diverse as down-tempo electronica to gypsy punk to tell the story.

The Emma Hounding was produced by Barry Gereb and Guy Welles, recorded at Echo Ranch Recording by Guy Welles, mixed by Justin Peacock at The Hook Factory and mastered by Brian Gardner.
