"LOOKING FOR A FREE, FUNKY GIG WITH CHEAP DRINKS? SURFER ROSA PLAY CROWN AND SCEPTRE TONIGHT!"

Tonight at the Crown and Sceptre, exciting multi-genre Adelaide band Surfer Rosa will team up with Friday’s Fox to bring you a night of feel good, funky, Friday grooves.

What better way to start your weekend than with a trio whose frontman Daniel Brasher says is a fusion of styles that has morphed over time.

“It’s a real mix of indie rock and blues. Our first gig was a blues gig and then we started gearing towards some groovier, funkier beats and we’re still evolving. We’ve got some numbers, based on South African jive music, that are really boppy and we’ve got others that are rockier and a bit Led Zeppelin, so it’s a really eclectic mix, but always good fun!” he says.

“It all started when I was playing at the Gaslight. I had a gig and Brad [Sutcliffe, drums] and Nicki [Bullock, bass] came to see it and liked the sound of what I was doing. I’d just got the SCALA 2015 Star Encouragement Award through the Songwriters, Composers and Lyricists Association so we decided we’d get together and jam and it turned into Surfer Rosa.”

Tonight is their CBD debut and, now they’ve honed their craft, Daniel is looking forward to taking their unique grooves to the Crown and Sceptre stage.

“I love the Crown and Sceptre because it’s a real hub for creativity and original music. They also host Monday Night for the Lonely Soul and on Friday and Saturday nights, there’s always great bands playing.”

And it looks to be a fantastic night with great weather, free entry and drink specials.

“Expect a good time; really groovy. The music has a groove, a funky beat and lots of twangy guitars and it’ll be high energy indie rock. Also, it’s free. Just rock up and enjoy the music. There’s also cheap drinks from 9-11pm. There’s cheap pints and spirits from about $4.00,” Daniel says.

Surfer Rosa are planning a big year of touring, and recording an EP, so keep your eye out for that and get yourself to the Crown and Sceptre tonight for some dancing and cheap bevvies! - Libby Trainor
