Bio

Multi-talented artist YungSurfGod is riding “BigWaves” on to the entertainment scene. His track titled “Queens” has approximately 74,000 streams on Spotify alone.

An emerging young artist, Tevin Charles (known by his stage name “YungSurfGod”), has come up from The Port neighborhood of Cambridge to connect with audiences all over the world through the arts. His music is a unique blend of Hip Hop, Pop, Rap, R&B and a little Rock. This rapper and videographer delivers music and viral video content on a global scale.

Tevin excels at storytelling through his music and the upcoming “Surfy n Friendz,” a collaboration with artists from his area, shares their struggles with producer rip-offs, poor studio quality and betrayal. The project, which will feature between 8 and 12 tracks and will be available on all digital music platforms, represents the group pushing through difficult situations.

His relatable and playful lyrics and vibrant sound have garnered success on Spotify for YungSurfGod, who believes in following his own wave.

“YungSurfGod is about being who you are and staying in your own wave,” he says. “You can have a wave. It doesn’t matter how small you are, you can do it major.” YungSurfGod is also a member of the diverse group, 86 Ent, an artist collective in the same vein as the Wu-Tang Clan and the A$AP Mob. The group of childhood friends consists of seven multimedia artists whose talents include rap, videography, production, cinematography, and video editing, forming a creative, in-house production powerhouse.

His admiration for the lyrical power and presence of Biggie Smalls and Lil Wayne finally led Tevin towards music. At 14 years old, he began writing his own music, and in 2015, he started working with a group of musically inclined friends.

Taking on different personas, his’s music career has evolved in phases. He started rapping as the superhero, Black Trunks. After going through personal challenges, his music entered a more aggressive phase and the anger ego of “Tokyo” emerged. In 2017, he went to California to renew, re-energize and take up surfing. A group of surfers who liked his music started calling him “YungSurfGod” and he discovered the perfect vehicle for delivering his distinct style of uplifting and versatile entertainment.

After struggling to perfect his sound, finding a competent sound engineer was a turning point for YungSurfGod. He worked with Alexx (who had attended Berklee College of Music) on two tracks, one of which became his most popular song. The track titled “Queens” has approximately 74,000 streams on Spotify alone.

Apart from his music, working with kids in the greater Boston area is a passion of his and all of his projects revolve around helping people. “I’m a youth worker. My goals, no matter what (though music or whatever I do) is to find ways to help and bring people together”, says YungSurfGod. He strives to influence youth in a positive way, and he appreciates the importance of the arts in their lives. YungSurgGod has learned videography and music mixing at the non-profit organization The Loop Lab, which trains people of color for jobs in the media arts. The life-changing experience accelerated his progress towards his goals. “Art saved my life,” he says.

Besides “Surfy n Friendz,” YungSurfGod’s upcoming projects include the release of multiple EPs in 2020, recording an R&B sound tape, and continuing to collaborate with artists around his city. He is also dropping his new clothing line (featuring a cartoon “BigWaves” surfer image) and plans to release a few singles in the near future. It’s “#BigWaveSzn” for YungSurfGod, and he’s surfing towards a bright future in the entertainment world.
