With its Buggles style intro, shallow drum machine, cute vocals and 1980's pop-rock sway, this can only have been recorded by comeone who's been locked in a room with her Belinda Carlisle records and John Hughes movies for the last two decades. Which is no bad thing actually. - Metro

With a strong wide ranging voice and a commanding stage presence she wears her influences - mainly 80's MTV fare - proudly. Good at it she is too, in their heyday The Bangles would have killed for a song such as the jangly pop of 'Summer Girls'. Almost an answer song to Don Henley's vituperative 80's anthem, 'Boys of Summer' , it deservedly won wide airplay over the past few months. Another 80's icon Belinda Carlisle could do worse than cover the equally radio friendly 'Sunrise' while the harder rocking 'Rock Star' has her stretching out vocally. At times her influences come close to mimicry; on 'Mad About You' she sounded uncannly like Kate Bush while a note perfect version of Fleetwood Macs 'Dreams' was chillingly close to the original, right down to Stevie Nicks reedy vocal.
Backed by a full band, she rocked the place - Bluechild's natural home is clearly in a bigger arena than Whelans.
Colm O'Hare - Hot press

You have to see this lady on BalconyTV.com. Not only is it the best impromptu music video of the year, and not only does Bluechild put her sunglasses on and off four times as she sings under an umbrella in the rain, not only does Dub entrepreneur Tom Millet dance away in the background exactly like a Muppet from Sesame Street, but the song itself is great, in a soundtrack to Days of Thunder type of way. - Mongrel.ie
