Time's a Dancer

Bio

The Deane Machine's primary audience is swing dancers: East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, Lindy Hoppers. You want to jump, you want to glide? Come dance to us.

Deane-Redmond duo plays danceable jazz. Mostly two guitars (some bass, some ukulele!) two voices, delightful interchange for listening or maybe some dancing.

Secondary genre: another band, Foliage, plays Irish music and contra dances. What's contra dance, you ask? Contra dance is a New England traditional form of dance that thrusts a different person into your arms every 30 seconds or so. Actually, it might be more prudent, but less whimsical, to say that contra dance is one of the few dance forms in which you are likely to have danced with everyone by the end of the evening. People of all sorts come to dance, socialize, perhaps exercise (it's invigorating!), and enjoy a thrilling scene of great music and moving bodies! A caller leads dancers through a variety of easily learned and fun dances. It is a little like square dance, but always with live music which often sounds less like cowboys than like Celtic music with a twist of jazz! Piano, fiddle, tenor banjo - but we have also played with flutes, concertinas, and saxophones and drum kits!
