"Mr. Grammy Richard Adler Going for the Jazz with Suzahn"

JAZZING IT UP FOR THE GRAMMIES!

Richard Adler grew up in New York listening to jazz bands like Benny Goodman, Glen Miller, and Buddy Rich. He took up the trumpet and keyboards, but soon realized that his talents lay on the other side of the glass where he became one of the top engineers in Chicago. "In those days," says Adler, "Chicago had a great music scene, but once I visited Nashville and heard the quality of music there, I knew my heart had found its home."
And move he did, setting up shop as Sound Wave Recording on Nashville's world famous Music Row. Here he worked with such stars as Allison Kraus, Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, Neil Young, and Sam Bush. Also on his roster of experience are jazz greats like The Duke Ellington Orchestra, Lionel Hampton, and Natalie Cole.
His talent and expertise led to him winning four Grammies! One for recording and mixing of an album by Allison Kraus and her band Union Station, the second Grammy was for engineering of a Doc Watson album, his third was for producing Claire Lynch, and his fourth Grammy was for the mixing on John Hartford's album. Now he is looking for his fifth, this time in the jazz category that he loves so much.

DISCOVERING SUZAHN FIERING.

Richard Adler likes to hangout in nightspots that feature jazz music. It was on one such occasion that he got to hear singer/songwriter/guitarist Suzahn Fiering, also a native of New York who now lives in Nashville. In Adler's own words, "She's not just another songwriter with a guitar! I am very proud of the Grammies and nominations I have received and feel extremely fortunate to have worked with so many incredible artists in my career. Now I am ready to win a Grammy in the jazz category. There is a lot of jazz talent in Nashville, but Suzahn stands out with her unique vocal style and great guitar work. She is a gifted composer and her lyrics are like short stories set to jazz. Add to that her amazing scatting ability and I believe I have a winner."
Fiering has also performed with her own set of luminaries, which include Mel Lewis, Jaco Pastorius, Dick Oatts, Vanessa Williams, Shawn Colvin, Jonathan Larson, and Sean Lennon. On that night in 2001 a partnership was formed to pursue the same dream of recording a great jazz CD in Nashville and sharing musical tastes, recording techniques, and vision.
The two are now co-producing her upcoming CD titled PARIS WITHOUT HIS KISS which features cameos by some of Nashville's elite jazz performers like Jim Hoke, Bill Huber, Rock Williams, and Daryl Dybka. All the cuts were penned by Suzahn Fiering except for the Miles Davis tune "Four." The album is scheduled for release this spring. Meanwhile she is on the road performing in New York City, London, England, and Paris, France.

HOME IS THE STUDIO

Adler enjoys the studio. He is in favor of recording in an ensemble concept rather than recording individual performance. And to get the sound he wants, he records on analog and then does the mastering digitally. He achieves much of his unique producing and engineering by creating a relaxed, comfortable and fun atmosphere in the studio. He believes it is easy to do when the musicians are great, and that is one of the reasons he loves Nashville. To him and many others, some of the best musicians in the world live and play here.
With all of this in mind, Suzahn Fiering's PARIS WITHOUT HIS KISS might very well lead to Richard Adler's fifth Grammy. We wish them both good fortune!

Suzahn ‘s music is an elegant entrée into a romantic world of dazzling virtuosity; smoky-smooth vocals, impressive guitar work, masterful scatting, critically acclaimed originals and unique interpretations of jazz classics. The listener is transported to a place with blue martini’s, clinking wine glasses, well-dressed patrons and a cozy sepia-toned atmosphere. Suzahn hails from New York City and has worked with a who's who in the music world including Mel Lewis, Grady Tate, Marvin “Smitty” Smith, Donald Brown, Donald Harrison, Sam Bush, Dick Oatts and Jaco Pastorius to name a few. Suzahn’s interpretations are like short stories set to music, each a page from a steamy novel revealing a secret life through a well balanced mix of swing, blues, ballads, Latin and folk, accented by songs in French, Spanish and Portuguese. Suzahn’s voice is articulate and silky yet one can’t resist it's seasoned, road worn quality, which is well supported by her formidable guitar playing ability.
