Bio

Suzana discovered her singing voice in the garden-like setting of the Azores Islands -- where her family roots grow deep. The Portuguese culture and music has been a major influence on Canadian-born Suzana. After winning a vocal competition in the Azores, a resident radio announcer encouraged her to go into the recording studio.

Suzana's goal was to record her own music. She enrolled in the Music Industry Arts Program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Here, she was the only student nominated Best Overall Performance for two consecutive years.

At Fanshawe, Suzana paired her lyric and vocal talents with the musical arrangements of Mike Dell and together they produced their first CD, "DORJE."

"DORJE" was launched in the Azores to honour Suzana's love for the islands. She was interviewed and featured by the Acorianissima Magazine, the Azores Magazine and the RDP (Radio Portugal), the Island's most popular radio station.

In December 2002, Suzana and Mike completed their second album, "ANIMISM." The album included the song Searching Deep Down, selected for the CD "An Evening with Friends."

In November of 2003, Suzana was featured on the jazz compilation CD "W Network Presents ...AN EVENING WITH FRIENDS" released by Universal Music Canada. Other artists on the compilation include Norah Jones, Robbie Williams, Micheal Buble, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett and more.

In the summer of 2004 after performing festivals in Portugal and writing new material, Suzana and Mike returned to the studio under the guidance of legendary Canadian producer, Jack Richardson.

Jack is best known for his influential work with The Guess Who, Bob Seger and Alice Cooper. The Juno Award “The Jack Richardson Producer of the Year Award” is named after him to honour his contributions in shaping the Canadian music industry.

Jack produced Suzana and Mike’s third self-titled album “Suzana Da Camara” completed in 2005.

In August 2005, Suzana and Mike were honored by the nominations for Best Album (Suzana Da Camara) and Best Song (Searching Deep Down) at the 2005 Northern Ontario Music in Film and Television Awards.

Suzana's musical style is a mix of jazz, latin and pop with songs in English, French and Portuguese. Her smooth voice is accompanied by latin guitar, piano, and saxophone.

Suzana has an unselfish concern for the welfare of others ... she won the Mary Ann Darling Award for volunteer work raising Christmas funds for under-privileged families; taught English to children in Lisbon Portugal; and following in her Mother's footsteps, is involved with global charities.
