"Play Loud"

Play Loud
Musicians (or performers of all kinds) take note of a nearby resource – One World Studios. It’s rehearsal space located on an alley off 9th St. NW, one block from the Convention Center. Two rooms, each with PA, mikes, guitar and bass amps and basic drum kits, all in good shape. Plenty of soundproofing as well.

I sat in there on Satuday with Swagfunk, a group that includes one of our neighbors, master drummer Al Warren, and found One World a great place to play.

Bio

SWAGFUNK, is a Funk/Groove/Rock/Pop/R&B; band from Washington DC Metro area. Their musical style is somewhere between rock, funk, jazz, jam-band, Pop, R&B; and reggae. People's description of the music varies depending on who you ask. SWAGFUNK has been compared to bands such as: Earth Wind and Fire, Led Zeppelin, Rufus, Parliament, Prince, The Police, Beyonce, Sly and the Family Stone, The Average White Band, Sublime, and Mother's Finest. Again, it depends on who you ask. SWAGFUNK is well known for their live shows. Whether there are thousands of people or 10 people in the audience, SWAGFUNK will make you move and you will have a great time. "These guys groove like it's their last day on earth, with irresistible songs and wicked musicianship" (January 2009)

Originally formed in the winter of 2008, SWAGFUNK has since hit numerous milestones. In addition to performing shows all over the DC; MD; VA; and the Baltimore area; SWAGFUNK has also performed regularly in the northeast over the years. SWAGFUNK has developed a very loyal following globally. They have been adopted by the locals and have paved the way to a great music scene.

The original band name was "Equinnox and the Mary Groove" that formed in the 1990's. The band consisted of the current lead singer/drummer Danny Gorman, guitarist/bassist Brian A.C. Williams and Thomas Johnson on guitar. With the departure of Thomas Johnson from the group the band had taken a break for a while until Danny decided to hold a jam session with a few new musicians. Al Warren was immediately recruited based on previous projects with Brian. Mike Sutton came on board to replace Thomas Johnson. Scott Eister soon joined to hold down and work the bass guitar. With the acquisition of music Producer Daryl Braxton and others the band has reached a new level of performance. The band has been playing at large and small venues in 2008 to current. And we are looking to bring more exciting sounds to everyone in 2010.
