"Experience "New York Minute" with Swagger"

"If you are looking for an evening of sophisticated yet humble rock 'n' roll, swing by 527 Main Street for another "A New York Minute" showcase featuring the band Swagger.

Swagger is a three-piece group from Murfreesboro that formed in September 2007, combining talents and influences.

You can expect a solid performance from band members as they describe themselves as having the interest to welcome people in to a show and to keep them coming back.

"We just go up there and have fun. We joke with the audience and try to get them energized. That's why we are there," said bassist Jordan Bennett.

The guys in Swagger are influenced by everything in life and the mere battle of trying to survive it. While they mainly listen to what is considered good rock 'n' roll — such as Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young — they all seem to have their differences in what music styles influence them.

Swagger's creative process comes from all three members collectively. They are currently working on their first EP, which is set to come out some time in January. The guys also plan to put together an East Coast tour.

And Swagger has a philosophy: Melody. Space. Rock 'n' roll. Swagger.

Simply stated, Swagger's music has been known to create emotional attachments to the audience while reveling in the sounds they propel from the stage.

One track in particular that caught my attention when checking out the band's Myspace page (www.myspace.com/swaggerrocks) is "Drink it Good." This song has the remnants of something I would expect to hear on the soundtrack of an old "stoner" movie such as "Dazed and Confused" — or really any movie attempting to portray a moment of absolute leisure united with an atmosphere that transforms your existence to a large backyard party with music and good friends.

Swagger's Ryan Crowley has captivating vocals marked by his own style of scratchy, soulful vibrato.

Another song, titled "Firebreather," is a perfect example of how all three guys utilize their instruments to produce strong harmonies, turning them into expressive feel-good music. This track features the faint sound of hand clapping and electric guitar that keep you moving and smiling until the end.

The showcase at 527 Main Street on Saturday is Swagger's first stab at participating in "A New York Minute" (a weekly showcase at 527 headed by Saul Zonana). But members guarantee to keep you moving.

Dan Shafer will take the stage at 7 p.m. to warm you up before Swagger performs at 8 p.m.

Start New Year's off right while you rock the night away with "A New York Minute" and the incredibly talented local band, Swagger."

Bio

A 3-piece rock band from Middle Tennessee who wears their influences on their sleeves, Swagger succeeds in breathing fresh air into the lungs of an exhausted music scene by playing relatable rock and roll.

Their drive for perfection and constant search for soul allows them to lay down a solid groove that is both fresh and original. While they are well versed in all types of music, they have effectively become a sonic force that is unmistakably unique.

With a rapidly growing fan base, good music and an attention-grabbing stage performance, Swagger makes sure that people will stay for that one extra drink at the end of the night. As an unapologetically ambitious band with a thirst for great music that moves people, they bring 'em in the door and keep 'em there.
