SwampDonky

BandRockClassic Rock

Welcome to the SWAMP! SwampDonky is a rock band whose style draws upon elements of classic, blues, and alternative rock. We integrate melodic sensibility with old-school guitar-riff-laden drivin' grooves. Think Red Hot Chili Peppers meets Stone Temple Pilots meets The Black Crowes.

Biography

SwampDonky 2nd release, “Off The Hook,” features seven new originals, following up where the band left off with their debut 4-song EP, “All Over The Map." The band’s signature track from their debut EP, “What Is Mine,” was awarded Track of the Day honors at GarageBand.com.

In 2007, SwampDonky advanced to the San Francisco finals (following three elimination rounds) in the Emergenza battle of the bands competition (www.emergenza.net), held at the Great American Music Hall. SwampDonky’s performance was well-received by the judges as the band placed in the top 4 (out of 23 bands) overall, and drummer Joel was awarded “best drummer” in the competition.

SwampDonky is a fan-favorite on the Bay Area music scene, appearing at several venues including the Great American Music Hall, 12 Galaxies, Rockit Room, Grant & Green, Beale Street Bar, Fat City, Blakes on Telegraph, the Time Out, and Rooster’s Roadhouse.

On stage, lead vocalist and drummer Joel Anderson always impresses audiences with his power, precision, and classic rock voice. Tommy Huxley is a blues-influenced lead guitarist with chops (think SRV meets Slash). Ryan Lorenzini’s rhythm guitar parts add color to the sound and complement Tommy’s leads. Tony Las Vegas locks it all down on the bass. Both Ryan and Tony sing backup, and many of the band’s songs feature 2 and 3-part vocal harmonies. Many songs also feature the baritone saxophone performed by frequent guest musician, Kevin Brunetti.

Lyrics

Borrow

Written By: SwampDonky

Hold me down
I’m not sure I can control myself
You let me down
Now you’re on your knees again

Do you feel on top
No you don’t
No you don’t
No you don’t

You’re so weak you don’t follow
Too late to beg or borrow

I figured you out
You’ll never do more than you have to
And the easy way out
You’ll find it when you want to

You’re so weak you don’t follow
Too late to beg or borrow
Do you feel scared
You’re so weak
Yeah

A Long Time Comin'

Written By: SwampDonky

It’s been a long time comin’
I’ve hit the ground off and runnin’
And I’ve got both ends burnin’
I’ve got both ends burnin’

I’ve waited for the day
You’re too far on the outside
I’ve waited for the changes
For the longest time

It’s at the tip of my tongue
But just so far out of reach
And it’s been a long time comin’
A long time comin’

I’ve waited for the day
You’re too far on the outside
I’ve waited for the changes
For the longest time

Drive

Written By: SwampDonky

I’ve been dreading this moment all week long
I know it ain’t gonna be no fun but I guess it’s my turn
Oh yes it is

It’s getting hotter in here

I’m drivin’ myself out of my mind
It’s what it takes to survive
Eyes are burnin’ I can’t see the divide
I guess I’ll just drive

Time keeps on pushing me down the line
I am getting weary from the warm sunshine
Oh yea

I’ll pull over right here

I’m drivin’ myself out of my mind
It keeps me alive
Eyes are burnin’ I can’t see the divide
I guess I’ll just drive

I keep movin’ on
I keep movin’ on
I keep movin’ on and on

I’m drivin’ myself blind
It’s what it takes to survive
Eyes are burnin’ I can’t see the divide
I guess I’ll just drive

Realize

Written By: SwampDonky

I’ll take all your help
I’ll take all that you’re willing to give
I’ll stay busy
And I’ll put a smile on my face

You don’t realize
She won’t compromise

It won’t matter anyway tomorrow
What’s been killing you has been killing me for days

Hold your tongue
Your opinion will not mend
Just one spark
Could burn this place to the ground

You don’t realize
She won’t compromise

It won’t matter anyway tomorrow
What’s been killing you has been killing me for days

Captured (Where Have You Been?)

Written By: SwampDonky

I’m not sure how you’re livin’
I can’t say that I’m too proud
Tell me where have you been
With your head in the clouds

Where have you been?

I’m not sure that you’re givin’
All that you have got
In this day that we live in
Is somewhere that you’re not

All that you’re used to
All that you know
You’re captured by your inner self
Don’t you know

Where have you been?

Coming Down

Written By: SwampDonky

It’s at your front door
It’s coming down
You can see it on the wall
It’s coming down

I am not the one pointing fingers
I am not the one telling stories

The man on the news
What does he say
In all you believe
Where will you stand

I am not the one pointing fingers
I am not the one telling stories

I am the brother that holds you
I am the one who meets you there

Open the back of the book
What do you read
Who resides in your heart
Where do you bleed

You are not the one taking the blame
You are not the one held responsible

I am the brother that holds you
I am the one who meets you there

I will not be held responsible
I could never take your blame

Way Too Far

Written By: SwampDonky

I came home last night I was so frustrated
Don’t you know how hard it can be walking in my shoes

Wait just one minute
I was way out of line

I’m sorry
I take it way too far
I take it way too far sometimes

How can you be so unorganized
You mess me up with every roll of the dice

Wait just one minute
I was way out of line

I’m sorry
I take it way too far
I take it way too far sometimes

Half A Chance

Written By: SwampDonky

Falling further almost dead
I feel my mouth is on the curb and your boot is in the back of my head

Given half a chance I would take you
If I had half a chance I would break this in two
I will run from you no more

I’ll get off of your case because I’m no better
There is more inside of you than I can weather

Given half a chance I would take you
If I had half a chance I would break this in two
I will run from you no more

What Is Mine

Written By: SwampDonky

Back in forth inside of my mind
I’ve been thinkin’
If I told you what I wanna do
You might say I’m crazy

Say what you will
It’s alright

I’m to the point of no return
I’m getting busted
They say I’ll never learn
I’m still trusted

Say what you will
It’s alright

I know how it feels
To be simple and free
Don’t waste my time
Get out of my way I’m taking what is mine

Everyone likes danger
And maybe I’m no different
A perfect stranger
Yea the kind that you rent

Say what you mean
I don’t care

I know how it feels
To be simple and free
Don’t waste my time
Get out of my way I’m taking what is mine

Reputation

Written By: SwampDonky

I’m not here to tell you
What you should or shouldn’t do
But I can certainly tell you
That your mother and your friends won’t approve

You see I’ve got a reputation
And you need your protections
Because they’re holding grudges
On something I ain’t done yet

Everybody’s got good advice
Trust is more that just not telling lies
I can understand why you don’t run to me
You know that I’m the one you need

I admit it right now, I confess
I like to play my cards close to my chest
I don’t want to talk about where I have been
But I tell you I’m here to the end

You see I’ve got a reputation
And you need your protections
Because they’re holding grudges
On something I ain’t done yet

Everybody’s got good advice
Trust is more that just not telling lies
I can understand why you would want to run
You know that I’m the only one

Everybody’s got good advice
Trust is more that just not telling lies
I can understand why you don’t run to me
You know that I’m the only
