Bio
Many years ago. Well, not so many. Maybe 3 or 4. On August 2, 2013, to be precise, a band was born in the city of Medellin, Colombia. It wasn´t called Sweet Machines. It was called Los Briosos. And it was nothing but a bit of fun and an excuse to play the music we loved.
Back then, a number of friends from different bands around town got together to enjoy ourselves by playing 80s rock and pop, having grown up with the New Wave, Post-Punk and New Romantics sounds.
Playing any number of concerts in popular venues around Medellin, we quickly managed to gather an audience that followed us from bar to bar, from party to party.
In 2016, and looking to stretch our wings a little, Los Briosos started writing our own songs, along the same lines as the New Wave and Synthpop bands that we had become known for, and included them in our gigs to great acclaim.
However, it became glaringly evident that the band’s name, while hilarious in Spanish, wasn’t really made to be taken seriously (not unlike some of its members).
And so, after a visit to a shopping mall in Medellin, and a photo that will never, ever see the light, the members at that time decided to change the band’s name for Sweet Machines.
Our story is just beginning. With Marcel Villamil on vocals, Juan Camilo Henao on drums, T.J. Donner on keyboards, Alex Penagos on guitar, and Diego Layos on bass, we are writing songs and developing ideas to take a stage near you by storm.
Right now, we are launching our first single “Take Me Higher”: An anthem full of synthesizers, glittering guitars and soaring vocals that will take you back to the time of leg warmers and hot pink t-shirts, while giving you hope that the future might be better.
